Making fire with pine knots

I used the axe to make shavings and split the knots into small pieces.

The shavings ignited after a few tries and I could build up the fire. It was burning hot, but very sooty.

Pine knots can be a solid emergency sole fire starter, but for cooking I would not recommend it.

I went out at the moot and found some pine knots to play with - I'd heard you could do the same with stumps, but I didn't find any!
