Isn't that photo of the horses amazing? Seriously, that's a really beautiful picture.

The last photo of horses I had from that place, which is the only photo of horses I had from that place, also involved a really good friend of mine. He's dead now after jumping off Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh where he was living (not on Arthur's Seat - Edinburgh) but the photo and the poem I wrote for him was in the centre of his mantlepiece. I only discovered this, 8 years after last seeing him, when I met his family at the funeral and his sisters got really excited when they discovered that the one thing they had brought back from his flat, assuming it was important to him because it was in the centre of his mantlepiece, was the photo and the poem. Here's the poem but bear in mind that it was written for him and he was diagnosed as having a serious mental illness which happened to involve lots of 'religious' entities like Pan, the Buddha, Krishna, Lucifer and the like. He also identified strongly with his birth year in the Chinese calendar - Fire Horse. I wrote it after visiting him in hospital:

Horse God on fire
Burning my falling friend
In the light of the morning star
Falling
Lucifer is coming
To live in you
with Pan
IO Pan, IO Pan
I know no man
Like you
Priest of Lug
ER Lug, ER Lug
I hear your fugue
Shiva's chanter, ranter, cantor
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna
New Buddhist with your mantra
Aum mani padme hum
Oh man take me home,
Oh man, take me home.

I never did. . . . He'd have liked the wood a lot. Probably have made a bunch of really interesting sculptures by now and entertained everyone at a meet with his flute playing and stories of his wacky adventures.

Anyway, great photo Elevenses. Really good. Can you send me a high res version to david@sustainedmagazine.com - I'm not going to publish it but want a copy for myself and the work email takes photos whilst my personal email gets uppity about file sizes.

If any of yo want to volunteer to organise the next meet then let me know and I'll talk to Dave the Wood. After that it's all yours. Enjoy.

Okay, okay you've twisted my arm. Sulk over. Let's get back down to business.

One condition though. if you discover that I'm a 'patronising', meglomaniac intent on turning all bushcrafters into 'carbon copeis' of myself whilst having no regard or sympathy for anyone whatsoever due to the fact that I have 'never suffered' at all in my entire life so am utterly intolerant of anybody else's personal problems then tough. Go complain to a tree or, better still, double check that you're not projecting.

That said you might just like me . . . a little bit at least.

So, who's up for July then?

We have Bodge - if my diary and memory are correct then it's 18th, 19th and 20th though if anyone wants to come on the Thursday I doubt that will be a problem. I'm thinking of asking the owner if those who do come on Thursday can have a free night as they'll be helping out a bit but that's an 'IF' at the moment.

Have a look at the very first post as there's lots of info there on the wood, all the dates (there's an August one too) and if you've anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.

Ok thanks
I wasn't sure if the first post with the dates was correct.
I would of loved to attend but I'm off to the midlands meet in Coventry on 18th-20th July.
Have a good meet. maybe next time (not August though, busy again:rolleyes: )

Yeh I didn't realise there was a Midlands meet when I suggested that date. However, if it's a meet you want then there'll be more in the future I'm sure but if it's a recky of the wood then PM when you have free time, weekdays or weekends, over the coming months and we can find a date for a personal tour. Actually, WilS has problems with the meet dates too so we might get lucky and find a date to suit him as well. That goes for anyone else who can't make those dates too, so if the Midlands gang can't do the August date, but want to come over before or after their meet, then I'm sure something can be arranged.
