James,

yes it's an American book, although I found by chance in a book shop in Alton, and yes it's got some good info on Whitetail which will be helpful on my trip :)

You say that they have gone for £197

I have had one since it came out and although its a good book it's not worth that much.
I think I paid about 14 quid for it from W.H.Smiths

People being silly I think.
Same as with the knives.

I think in money value with the 'green' mears book the first edition printed in 1990 is the one that 'sells' for silly money. This one is on ebay for £197 and is signed. I think it was originally on at a higher price and has been reduced - no bidders yet!

I have a copy of the 1994 reprint which in cash terms is worth far less but has the same information inside. Personally when i read I dont mind what edition it is the words are the same! It is a good book though.

Given your luck it would only be reasonable to put it up as a pass-around wouldn't it? Then we could all enjoy your good fortune!:naughty: :p

James...I got mine new in 1998 for £8.00 :D from a market stall selling end of line books.

The pictured book has not been reprinted since then, I think mine was the tail end of that run. As I understand it, Ray doesn't have the rights, and there was some problem with the publishers which has meant no reprints. I could be wrong, but it is such a good book that it is hard to imagine another reason for not reprinting it. Its would practically be a license to print money.

There is more information in that first book than there has been in any one of the subsequent ones, but, it is all black and white photos/line drawings and predates all the TV appearances. Some things are better ilustrated in later books, but the text in this one is very good.

These two books are identical although the publishers and ISBN numbers are different.

I dont know if it was my post you were refering to Hoodo, but I was talking about the rare book that has been selling for £100+. I got one a few days ago for £12 also from Amazon.

Nope I was referring to the earlier discussion that posted a link to the book on the right, which is often confused with the more rare book (which it isn't).

I got a copy of Raymond Mears's book at a car boot sale about 2 years ago for a quid, I couldn't get the money to the vendor fast enough, and I think I left indentations in the cover, I wasn't going to let it go!

Nice book, much much more info than his later books. I get the impression that he was leaving lots of stuff out in the later books with a view to teaching it on his courses, sort of a "if you want to learn more you'll have to come on our courses, Visa, Mastercard, right arm, first born son all accepted as forms of payment" And doesn't he look young in the pics!

Just got a trio of books from Amazon, one by a certain Mors Kochanski, another by a fella called Nessmuk, and one on primitive living(can't remember his name, and sheer lazyness prevents me leaving my chair to find out), all very informative and good reading.
