Looking for recommendations for a head torch for children walking at night or in an emergency situation.

any recommendations looking at an alpkit viper at the moment. Got to be light with a good beam and not too expensive

No experience of the Alpkit torch but I've used Petzl Myo and Zebralight head torches extensively with no complaints - the Petzl gave up the ghost after a few years of heavy use but although was out of warranty was replaced by Petal FOC.

As a budget option, I've got at least ten of the £land offerings dotted around in bags, vehicles etc. and although I'd probably not want to rely on one for any length of time, none have let me down so far! :)

I bought one of these for my 6 year old lad about 6 months ago uses for camping n reading in bed at night.i didn't want anything too expensive as kids are kids so he will inevitably brake it at some point.its a decent enough lamp plenty bright enough and not too heavy for his melon

The Alpkit ones are good, if it's road walking consider the Gamma as it has a rear light as well. All their head torches are on clearance special offer at the mo

When I was in a similar position (my girls are 5 and 7) I was looking at the Led Lenser Neo. Batteries at the back for even weight distribution but more interestingly they use it to put a red light at the back. It's for runners but walking along roads or simply being able to see your kids easily is what attracted me. On offer somewhere most of the time and comes with another little torch if you hunt around. Now I'm thinking about it again the really wide beam is quite temping for me as much as them...

Alpkit Gamma - for £15 you're getting a balanced headtorch with rear battery , rear red light, front main beam with 3 levels of brightness and 3 colours of lower level LED for closer work. Excellent bit of kit , I have 2.

Another vote for the Gamma. I have both the Viper and Gamma. Gamma is better.

Energizer do very affordable head lights, maybe with a look.
