We are bringing our 4 year old and Steve is bringing his son and friend (age around 6 or 7 I think). We will just be there for the day too I think, although I might send Kurt and Kai home and stay on without them :p

bit of a bum. had to go to my grandads funeral this week (3 days in london) so got behind with a mountain of work. will try and pop up over the weekend, even if only for a couple of hours, but if I don't manage to make it, have a fantastic time and hopefully catch up with you guys at SMARTY's. If I do manage to find the time to come down, and you need supplies, then get Rhoda to give me a bell and I'll try to sort it out.

Sorry to hear about your Grandad Ange, hope you can make it, even for a few hours, it'd be good to see you there.

Just got back from a major foraging session. Great woods in St Austell, called ASDA!! They even sell tinder in the pet section, so I've got a sack of dry meadow grass. A few tins for the evening. Everything else we'll have to make up as we go along.

We had a great time. Sophie would like to thank "the lady who help me make the spoon, fork and knife." She's sanded them and olive oiled them now. She's also looking forward to RV and seeing you all there too. I'm going to pop out with her to another site too at some point.

Problem I have now is matching faces to names I can't remember to aliases that were not used :)

Sainty & Alie were the ones with the stove and meadow hay
Rhoda and Curly Steve were the tracking types.
? was the wild plant chap
? was the wooden cutlery maker with the patience of a saint (thanks, it made her day)
Nightwalker was the bow drill aficionado
? was Mr "I made fire first time, even though I've never done it before"
AndyRAF was the bearded axe wielder

Then it all becomes a bit of a blur.

Thanks for a lovely day guys, good to see you all and put faces to those who I haven't met before. Kurt, Kai and I had loads of fun as did our dog who is now asleep upside down on his bed, legs in the air dreaming of jack russels! :lmao:

Thanks Ash for organising it, hope those who stayed on are enjoying the various fruit flavoured beverages round the fire!! :D

Having had her bath and got ready for bed, Sophie said she'd really enjoyed her day and loved the woods and wanted to go back. She was disappointed at not staying. She asked if you were all going to be there next time and at Easter (RV) too. She's had a lovely day and you've all made it really special for her. Thanks so much. She's especially looking forward to seeing Allie and the boys at Cornwall RV.

If I can just get my in-car DVD player working, I'll have the journey aspect nailed, which is basically all that caused a problem.

I think that was myself and Lorna (she's not a forum member). Glad you guys had a good time :)

For our part, it was great to meet everyone, and for us, it felt like a big family from the word go. There's not many things you can do nowadays, where a dozen complete strangers can come together and instantly find a kinship as if we'd all been friends for years! The kids were all great, keen to learn and extremely well behaved.

I think something may have started here, I for one would be keen to do this several times a year (even monthly).

That is very true, we have a great little community of bushcrafters and I can't wait for the next get together! :You_Rock_
Thanks Justin for all the wild food tips, we must all go out again once Spring has well and truly sprung!

Guys, what can I say? Just thanks for a great weekend! As Rawshak says, it was so great that a bunch of strangers who all lead different lives away from the woods got on so well.

Thanks to Ashley for arranging things with the land owner and to everyone else for their kindness towards me and Allie. The cherry beer, pear cider and the blackcurrent mead were indeed superb and worthy of another outing.

Can't wait till the next time we meet.

Martin

PS. Look out for those banana spiders. :D

Definitely! It was a really friendly atmosphere and people just got on so well, it's really great to see people being so kind; sharing skills & knowledge and just generally helping and sharing with others.

My thoughts exactly, I will do my best to make this a more regular thing, I enjoyed it a lot.

Steve the chap who succeeded brilliantly with the fire/bow on his first ever attempt was a chap called Matt Julian (not a member of BCUK I don't think) but he leaves messages at NaturalBushcraft. Matt kindly donated some strong Blackberry Mead :beerchug: and we all had a good old chat in the evening.

Hopefully in the next day or so I'll have some photos & videos from the Meet up on my site. Thanks to all who made it a wonderful and enjoyable camp.

Sorry to hear about your son Chris. We'll all catch up with you soon at the RV.

Im glad you enjoyed it Paul, it was great meeting you.

Rhoda, just to let you know that Scott spotted an Otter diving into the lake whilst fishing on Saturday evening :) and Paul found some nice fresh fox tracks Sunday morning coming toward our camp.

Justin, thanks for edibles & showing me how to make that pop can stove!

Thanks Ash and Scott, Some of the skills demonstrated on the day were awesome.
Justin making the pop can stove ( and no cut fingers).

Thanks to all that turned up excellent, it's good to put names to faces.
I really do need to lighten my pack, I'm to old to carry a full one anymore.
