Fair point..the burning was spilt " rod spirt " seems to burn a lot hotter than meths..

Röd/rød sprit is Meths.

If you had a pressurised burner it was that. The flame is much hotter from those thse wih the same fuel as the Trangia (and copies) produces.
Blue flame = efficient, complete burning, no soot and very hot
Orange/yellow flame = inefficient, soot and just hot

The Trangia system was designed for the inefficient Trangia burner.

But the stand can easily be fixed with some darning with soft copper wires.

I am not agreeing, as carrying backup equipment is heavy.
You do not need a backup. Why?

Because going solo to where and when Cliff's going it makes good sense to have a backup stove.

All he's carrying is a trangia stove as an extra, so that's what under 100grm? Barely going to be an issue and could well be a lifesaver

When I can I make a small fire to save alcohol. Easy above the treeline even in winter. I guess everything depends on how long you will spend outdoors, how far you walk and your age ( carrying ability).

A winter trip of 4 days you still need to carry a fair amount of weight as you need to carry heavier clothes, sleeping bag and so on.

I rather carry a bar of chocolate. Freia.. with almonds.

Twodogs, will you ski if there is snow?

I walked in that area about 25 years ago. 3 weeks trip. I went up to that large glacier, from the south if I remember correctly. Stunning area.
Did the area east to west. Detours north to south, like a zig zag line.Started at Rjukan then east. I had one of the norwegian guys that blew up the heavy water plant as a guest teacher and I wanted to see what they rxperienced. Did it in summer though.

Get some netting and make into fist sized bags.

Drop a snowball in and then bury.

Light and much more secure than pegs.

Works even better if you pour some water on before you bury them completely. Freezes them in place.
The main thing is to shovel snow on the edge of the tent. Anchores it and prevents it disappearing in case the wind increases.

Ha..great minds think a like...
As it happens I was chatting to someone the other day about these.
My only worry is on my last exped up north it was powder snow and these would not work.
However I dont think this will be a problem at Finse the snow seems very compact looking at the vids on utube.

Love it Gents thanks for the input.
