Has anyone else heard anymore on the 7.1 Earthquake that struck 30Km from ChCh NZ.

So far I have heard that there has been serious injuries and fortunately no deaths reported, there is some serious damage to the towm/city and outlying areas.

State of emergency has been declared so the Civil Defence can call in more measures to deal with the aftermath.

Also there has been a plane crash in the "Fox Glacier" area which has sadly killed 9 people.

The plane went down near the airstrip at Fox Glacier, a central attraction in the UNESCO-designated World Heritage area on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.
"All nine people on board were killed," a police spokesman told AFP.
He listed the dead as the pilot, four New Zealand males and tourists from Ireland, England, Australia and Germany without detailing their ages or gender.

Having been down on South Island at the beginning of the year I feel for these people.

Good Luck South Island, my thoughts are with you.

The community spirit is high and I have heard that the residents and business owners are opening their doors to help those affected by the quake.

Hanmer Springs will be taking in hundreds of people affected by the damage to properties in Christchurch.
