I am a carp angler and have been using betalights or isotopes for years both as indicator markers and in the retaining ears of bite alarms average lifespan 10-15 years you used to be able to buy them for £2-3 pounds but inflation has taken over the same thing now is now more likely to cost £6-15 dependant on size God there is some rubbish on this site it would be nigh on impossible to use betalights or isotopes to illuminate a watch face as tritium is a gas and has to be contained in a glass vial which has the inner surface coated with phospher it also has a a very low half life hence my earlier comment 10-15 years and it starts to lose its potency, i use 12mm by 2mm vials in my indicator heads which have slots in to accomodate them they are available in the full range of the rainbow but some colours are far more effective than others notably red green blue and purple . I also use 3mm by 25mm in my swinger indicators and have much larger examples on the zips in my heavy canvas fishing bivvie (Karsten ) the reason why tritium vials would be useless in watch faces are fragility, the need to dismantle the watch every 10 years for replacement and the public reaction to a supposed radioactive product . I will finally add despite the worries which are almost completely unfounded these vials are perfectly safe even when broken even inhalation of the phospher or tritium is nothing to panic about and you will not get radiation burns or cancer we used to superglue them into the slots so removal often resulted in breakage . any one know of an antidote to superglue ! . there are large examples available to act as nighttime identifiers for keys etc but these are becoming quite expensive . to see examples just put betalite or isotope into your search engine or e-bay . i hope this missive helps .
