I had thought of something similar myself, as an idea, never went to the trouble of actually trying to implement it. Thinking of a lightweight boat which could be packable, my idea was pvc piping to be covered with a tarp. Looks like it's a workable idea after all :) although I much prefer a bent wooden framed one, especially with a see-through covering - would look awesome in clear waters:)

Stick to a wood frame. You can easily steam bend the needed shapes.
How will you patch the skin (whatever you use?) Inuit kayak are marvels of engineering.

Blimey, that takes me back! I suddenly remember seeing a video of someone making a tarp kayak like that some 10 or so years back. He used the same clips but the plastic bottle string is new.

Love it!
