    Fjallraven trouser sizing??

Hi all, seeking your wisdom here. I thinking of investing in a pair of Fjallraven Barents Pro trousers and wonder what the sizing is like. I think of myself as a 32" waist but the Kiwi's I have in that size are baggy on me; other makes are tighter. Any advice, please, from any users? Cheers, TedW

Anybody used the DD Hammocks tarp sleeve?

Hi all, One for the tree-dwellers. I use a snakeskin for the hammock itself and like the idea of the tarp sleeve instead of the stuff sack I presently use: http://www.ddhammocks.com/product/dd_xl_sleeve But, what do any actual users think of them? Do you just end up with a big (wet?) bundle...

Knife maker info - "Walker, England"

Hi all, some info please if anyone can help. My main bushcrafting knife is one I got off e-bay about 8 years ago, I really like it, it takes a good edge (once Ben Orford re-ground it for me to get rid of the secondary bevel someone had ruined it with!) and fits my hand well. I've been asked...

CRKT Stiff Kiss - help spotting a fake!

Hi all, I've always hankered after a drop-point CRKT Stiff Kiss after reading about them on here (I think), years ago. So I easily got suckered in to take advantage of my daughter's new US address and successfully bid for one on US Ebay. Then, I did the research I should have done earlier and...

Yellowstone Telescopic fire tripod - FAIL!

This is not a review as the tripod was not thoroughly tested across a range of conditions. It was bought as part of a Wilkinson's sale package that seemed good value with a pair of large billy cans and some enamelware, but it was the main thing I wanted. Positives first - the aluminium tripod...

Swedish winter bushcraft course in February 2014

Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success. Errrrrm, not quite! And ladies welcome! New thread started as the previous originator, Ricardo, can't make the course now. The...

    Sorel boot sizing?

Hi all; I'm looking to buy some boots for the Swedish arctic, possibly Sorel Caribou's. Any Sorel winter boot owners out there who can advise me about the sizing of Sorel winter boots, please? Do the published sizes allow for 2 pairs of socks or do I need to go a size larger? Cheers, Ted

    Cheap woolen Dachstein mitts

For any traditionalists (like me) out there wanting Dachstein-type felted wool mittens, have a look at Factsurplus Austrian Army wool mitts at £5.99 a pop - I got two pairs of the Medium size (about size 9, I'd guess) and have been quite impressed, both with the quality of the mitts and the...

    (Almost) Free Wool Headover

I have a British military wool (or mostly) headover/balaclava free to anyone for the price of a couple of stamps. I was issued it 20+ years ago and have never worn it as it's too itchy for my delicate skin! It's in quite fine material in a fetching shade of combat green. If you want it, PM me so...

How much wool to kill the stench?

Conventional wisdom has it that wool underwear can be worn for longer than synthetic stuff without cooking up a powerful stink. OK, but how much wool content is needed to do the trick? Will a pair of £18 M&S longjohns be as wiff-less as a pair of Ulfrottes/Woolpower etc. with wool content about...

    Canoe trip - locations?

Any suggestions about where to go for a trial canoe/bushcrafting trip? I'm thinking of next summer and would need somewhere within reasonable reach of Bath/Bristol, where I can hire a couple of canoes and find a location for an overnight hammocking camp with a fire. Around Ross-on-Wye maybe...
