    Snow & Nealley Axes

Chaps, I use a "small b@stard" file on both and then wet & dry to hone/polish; sometimes the fine side of a GF axe puck. I don't like too fine an edge as I find the axe gets snagged too easily in resinous timbers. You couldn't shave with either of mine as they are not intended for carving: mine...

    Snow & Nealley Axes

I have both the Camping axe and the shorter Penobscot Axe: both with the same sized head. The Penobscot helve is about 4" shorter. I would have no hesitation in recommending S&N axes. I find the edge is better set for use in the UK woods that a Gransfors. (I will probably be excommunicated...

What's the point in SAK saws?

Like BR I have used mine for trimming out 2" thick hazel shoots for bent wood shelters, tripods, tent pegs, atlatl darts and throwers. Also: I use mine to help sparking on my fire steel. Using the back edge of the saw blade I can "fluff up" a piece if phat wood; then trap the wood between...

Hi Swyn, Please add 1 adult and 2 kids to my "party" (there may be more). These will be camping over. I'd be happy to do a knife safety session for any of the kids/newbies attending. We could do some atlatl making & throwing also for anyone who fancies a go? Breadmaking, storytelling...

    New Year Meet at Swyn's

Hi Swyn, I'm in and will be happy to do an activity or two :D . Swyn I may mention this to a couple of hand selected families as a day-out idea, if that is OK with you? Also - to all reading this: would there be any interest for another Help for Heroes Fundraiser Kit Sale? This worked well...

    Mountain Tent reccomendations

Westwind is solid enough: but needs all the pegs to make it secure. I'd seriously suggest a Macpac Minaret or Olympus, Or a Hilleberg Nallo - they don't vent as well as the Macpac (more designed for use in deep snow). The Vango Spirit TBS 250 is not to be sniffed at either. I still own a couple...
