    Knitting Needles and Crochet Hooks

I've got some lime wood knitting needles in about 2.5mm and they work very well. Have used apple suckers successfully too. Bone is wonderful to work with, it gets better with age. I regularly use several sets of victorian bone knitting needles and crochet hooks, we make our lucets from bone...

A Pictorial Guide to Soap Making

I would also advise always running any recipe through a lye calculator (the one here is very good http://www.the-sage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php) even if you think you know what the NaOH to fat ratio is. Rough rule of thumb, the runnier the oil at room temperature, the softer the soap, which is why...

    For headaches

Have you also looked at whether a particular food or habit is causing the headaches? I get persistant migraines if I eat too much wheat for example, but it took me years to identify that as the culpirt as I can be fine if I get the amount just right. For other people, a particular stitting or...

I love them, such a pretty berry, My mum has one in the garden just for the autumn seeds. I did some knitting recently inspired by spindleberry colours, worked really well even in wool :)

Just found a great new tool for bevelling the edge leather.

Thats a really useful tip, I'm often scrabbling round for something to thin leather edges with, that looks ideal :)

A question for city workers ?

Interesting question. I usually have some first aid basics, matches and a small (tiny even)blade in my bag somewhere, but I'd never really considered them as city survival gear, just stuff I cart round with me. In the short term of a disaster, I would imagine you could find most things you might...

    drinking horn!

Nice work! I'm a huge fan of ring and dot pattern, so easy to do, and always a great result. I'm always surprised we don't use it more on modern pieces.

    My Ebay demijohn bargain....

Brown is good for aging delicately coloured wines, where light might be detrimental

Tablet weaving and warp weight loom stuff

Tablet weaving always looks complicated until you actual start doing it. Then, some patterns remain fiendishly complicated but if you stick at first to ones where you turn the whole pack at once it all becomes a lot clearer. Would second Toddy's suggestion to thread the whole pack at once, its...

Moulds and metal casting - not exactly bushcraft

We've done Bronze smelting using copper and tin over a charcoal fire, and it does take a bit of patience. Whatever you use as a mould make sure it is ultra dry before you start, the merest suspicion of moisture and it can all go bang in the most horrible way

How much do you spend a year on kit?

Virtually nothing here, but then we have a lot of stuff that doubles up for camping, re-enacting, tools, kitchen, crafts etc. Most of our stuff is multi functional, so I think the only specifically buscrafty thing I've ever had was my big knife, and that was a 21st present from himself rather...
