Toddy, I've got pretty much the same soil and dampness situation as you on my patch. Have you tried using wood ash as slug repellant? It has to be old ashes, though (as in, maybe a year old or so), so as not "burn" the plants. Works pretty well for me. / Karl

What johnboy said. One more vote for the Vulcan after 15 years of only good experience from using one. Just make sure you get the correct size for your back length. It does pay off to go try out the different sizes in a shop before you spend your cash. / Karl
