    Winter hammocking

The weight seems to depend on what you want. The ones that just block the wind and rain are not that heavy and roll up into a big shopping bag. I haven't seen a full winter one. I might ask if I can borrow a mid weight one and try it in the garden.

    Winter hammocking

I was speaking to a guy at the weekend and the conversation got onto winter camping. To cut a long story short he was saying he used a horses winter rug as I would think of an underblanket. It already had the openings at each end was waterproof, windproof and reasonably warm. Any one else...

Lovely, and I would also like to know why it was worn on the front. Maybe to stop the kilt lifting in the wind? Keep all your valuables together :) Tam

    Children's Bushcraft

I recieved an email from this lot http://www.blueskiesearthskills.co.uk/ a couple of weeks ago. I have no association with them etc. I did a firelighting and tracking course with them and thought it was pretty good. I did have a couple of reservations regarding the camp cooking being...

Dryer lint as firestarter? No Way!

I have had pretty good results from the fluff left after drying towels (cotton?) but not much luck with anything else. My pal brough around some fluff from his new carpet to try as well and it was pretty useless, then we realise it was probably treated against fire :) Tam

    Cloak Wearers - Step Forward

I bought a full length of great kilt material with the idea of using it as clothes and blanket in one. Tried sleeping in it first on a coldish night where my wife and son were in sleeping bags. I decided I was too much of a wimp and liked the comfort of a sleeping bag after one night. My toes...

Archery Butts - Has anyone made their own?

I made one out of old carpet tiles from an office refurb that appears to be holding up well enough, held together with two ratchet straps and held between two pieces of wood. The arrows slide between the tiles and don't churn it up too much. Someone also suggested a large plastic bag tightly...

    Anyone seen Avatar movie?

loved the film, content was a bit shallow but the visuals were spectacular. I was thinking Dances with Wolves meets Fern Gully but it didn't stop me enjoying the film.
