    Tarp & Hammock in Sweden?

My two cents: I have been using the hammock in -15 degrees. A hammock is trickier than a mat on the ground. If your underblanket is too tight or too loose, you can get a cold spot onder your back. Also, on the ground you can pitch a tarp in such a way that you are almost windproof. That is more...

Any cool areas in the Netherlands?

You can always go to the Scouts terrains, they are called "Labelterreinen". You can find them here: https://labelterreinen.scouting.nl/ In winter/early spring you can usually book a terrain without anyone else being there. Maybe the German scouts have something similar? And as Jorn said: I...

@Gill: thanks! Giving back to BCUK as well, since they helped me identify the axe and the company. @Two Socks: Yeah, I was surprised as well!

    Axe restauration manual

Hi all, I've written a detailed blogpost in English and Dutch about an axe restauration project with lots of pics here: http://thijsknoester.blogspot.com/2012/01/bijlrestauratie-axe-restauration.html. I've explained things like rust removal, cleaning the head, making the handle to size and...

    Identify this axe

Hi guys, Found a rusty old hatchet / axe that I refurbished. It's marked C.T. Skelton & Co, Sheffield. It also has the original goat's head logo and a big "2" stamped on the blade. What type of hatchet / axe is this ? Thanks in advance!

    Stropping compound woes

You should see the vids.....some of those straight razor guys are close to taking their strop to bed with them.... ;-) (Talk about a leather thong there  )

    Stropping compound woes

Cool, I'm going to read this whole post for my next stropping action. And even a vid, yeey! All other vids/instructions I have followed come from straight razor sites, pretty good but still a slightly different ballgame. Mu 2 cts: green compound is easier to apply with a little WD40. - apply...

    Wetterlings Axe

Got a Wetterlings 19" axe as well, performs very well. Can't remember if there was something wrong with the grind, suppose not since I can't remember. BUT: the grind is uneven - 1 side is almost flat, the other side is convex. Works fine but when I emailed them about it (thought it was done on...

    Home fires burning

We got our stove installed last week. Something my and my GF really really wanted, and it's been burning every night ! It's a small Belgian cast iron burner, a Laxevaags Trianon. IMAG0067 by Thijzzz, on Flickr @Red: I'm kinda jealous at you for having a wood shed that size. That's about...

For Sale: Snugpak Underblanket (with BCUK Logo)

I can say the Snugpak UQ kept me warm with -5, and my sleeping bag was rated to -4 comfort. I did use an extra blanky ;-) It insulates really good and it's thick and windproof, that helps even more.

    Anyone good at repairing/moding Hennessys?

Wouldn't UKHammocks be a lot more closeby and therefore cheaper? I'm sure he can fit a zip into your HH! PS: Zip mod on HH's is THE SINGLE BEST THING you can do to your HH!

    Neat wood chopping

Dunno if anyone had this tip: you can also stack up some old car tyres and place a block (or several smaller ones) in there and chop away.

Knackered kit that you have restored

Got a € 1,- small axe at the local boot sale. Was completely rusted, loose head etc. After some labour I turned it into this and made a sheath for it. I love doing up old bits like this, I really enjoyed myself working on it. Come next boot sale, I'll get some more axes and fix them up as...

to start leather working or buy a sheath?

Start doing it yourself, great fun! The only special tool you'll need in the beginning is a stitch groover, and even that you can do without. Actually only the thread is something I would always buy especially for this purpose. For "how to's": plenty of tutorials on BB and Google is your...
