Trip to Hopsfjellet mines 16. may 2010

Hi Tor, Nice trip. I love old mines. I like the way you casually throw in "I found a reindeer antler and took it with me. Could be of use someday." Very envious! Cheers, Steve

    Almost lost my Mora Clipper....twice

We had a geology field trip to the Isle of Skye when I was a student. Geologists use layers of similar features, such as fossils, to mark time as they are laid down at the same time interval. We joked about the 'Skye Student Geological Hammer' horizon as several were put down and forgotten...

In Which Tengu Learns the Meaning of the Term `Work`.

'Work' is over rated Tengu. Trust me I woke up at 05:00 to drag my sorry @rse to London. Last call from work was [pauses to check Blackberry] 19:31. Now it's 00:40 but the good news is that I can sleep as late as I like... so long as I get up at 05:15 when the alarm goes off again. Like I...

BSA SuperTen (Mk III) bull-barrel carbine .177

Ah... yes well I am going to be buying a rifle for my daughter to use as she is keen to start target shooting. SWMBO not altogether sure about that to start with... let alone spending >£300 on one ;) Lovely piece of kit though (hangs on tight to wallet). Cheers, Steve

    Hobo Stove

Caliban, I have just done four days with just a Hobo stove. I use a Trangia burner when it needs to be more discrete but wood when I can as it creates more heat. It's quite a practical way of cooking whenout and about. Cheers, Steve

    Two new kit ideas

I think lots of folk have a bottle labelled with a 'P' for... Your idea sounds like a type bottle I used to use for photography. It's a concertina shape to alllow you to exclude all the air after you have poured some deveoloper out of it (prevents the stuff oxidising). Have a look at...

    Bushcraft Humble pie!

I thought that was pretty clear. A recognition that he had upset some people. An apologetic tone stating that some of his posts had been inappropriate. A promise to try to be more considerate in the future. I think that a promise to try to be more considerate is a more honest and...

The best stove for the uninitiated

It's very much a question of personal taste. I have used gas andpetrol stoves in the past and both are very effective. However I now often travel with my hobo stove and trangia. I have just come back from four days walking with this as my stove and it coooked three meals a day very capably...

The best stove for the uninitiated

I would look at a hobo stove. I have used mine with wood, meths and hexy (store the hexy sepparately as it is not very nice stuff!). I have a trangia burner (with the mini-Trangia pot stand) which fits inside my billy, inside the stainless drainer. You can burn a range of fuels and a wood...

    Wetlander

That's very expensive... but ooooohh there's quality there. A sensuous curve to the grip. There's nothing I don't like about that one. Cheers, Steve
