Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

It's simply not the case, 'rights' can be changed. One's earnings are an asset yet the government takes a decent chunk of it each month. The trouble is, not enough is taken each month which allows the rich to buy vast amounts of land or other assets.. You don't expect anything for free and nor...

Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

That's just not the case. There are ties other than money that keep these people here. Empirically, as long as it remains financially profitable for them they will stay - even if there is a higher tax burden. You've just rephrased trickle down economics which is a myth. They say the bath the...

Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

If we had a tax system that was less skewed to rich and super rich there would likely be more than enough money to fund such maintenance. A steeper inheritance tax and the closure of the many loopholes for avoiding it (a 100% tax over a certain point) would also go some way to funding it...

Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

Ah yes, you have me. I think Nick Hayes is the Messiah. I think the etymology is less important than what it is accepted to mean now, i.e. not somebody from the nobility or royal family- who incidentally own nearly 2 000 000 acres between them. Inherited, not earned. Or what it is coming to mean...

Potential ban to wild camping on Dartmoor.

I would recommend reading 'The Book of Trespass' by Nick Hayes. The way we (the commoners) view ownership has be formulated by hundreds of years of oppression and theft from the aristocracy. People talk of rights and possession as immutable facts but the reality is actually far more nuanced...

Leather Craft_Show us what leather goods you have made past & present

I had a go at making a simple sheath for a mora carving knife. No belt loop etc. as I tend to keep it in my pack. Stitching was a bit better than my previous axe sheath. Looks much better than the plastic thing it came with. Mora sheath by . Dugs, on Flickr

Had a go at making an axe sheath for this Wood Tools Carving Axe. Stitching is a bit ropey but learnt a few bits along the way. Axe sheath by . Dugs, on Flickr Axe sheath by . Dugs, on Flickr

    Winter Bow Drill Cordage

Hi, long time no post, I recently succeeded in making fire from a bow drill set I put together whilst out in the woods, which has been a long term goal for me. I used nettle cordage which worked well without having to dry it out. This got me thinking about what would be a good cordage for...

    Sharpening with Waterstones

Hi I've just got a couple of questions about waterstones. What grit would you sharpen to for different tools? -Your standard workhorse Bushcraft knife? -Skinning Knife -Forest Axe? -Carving Tools? -A Kitchen Knife? How would you progress through the grits? What would you start at...

    Lime on Lime bowdrill

Thanks for the help. Flattened off the hearth board a bit and got an ember first time. Also ended up using a longer drill. All in the rain ironically.

    Lime on Lime bowdrill

Cheers, That's what I thought. I've had success with a lime hearthboard before and a willow drill I think. I'm getting plenty of smoke and plenty of dust but no coal. It seems my image isnt posting the link is https://www.dropbox.com/s/cb4qdy75q314kru/20161007_193359.jpg?dl=0

Hi, I'm pretty new to actually paying attention to the trees around me and was wondering if i could have some help identifying a few. Apologies if this is already on the forum but I couldn't spot it. Thanks in advance So I thought these first two were a type of willow but I'm not sure what...
