Well I have the new version...handle is quite well done. The front shoulders of the "bolster" are angled back instead of square...that is the only change I think has been done to the handle. It is comfortable.
The file marks on the spine...I cannot imagine they were useful at all...
If you can ever find Wille's book grab it...at almost any cost. It really is worth it.
Another to watch for is also out of print...not in the same technique rich way as Wille, but with a load of excellent images and project ideas:

I recently purchased this Dustrude saw...it is indeed a clever saw. Compact, easy to stow and deploy and taking standard 24" blades it is easily fed.

I did this one up as a Christmas gift for my wife. Birch tree and button clasp on a kangaroo twist braid.
I do hope she likes it....as it is the big gift:)
