    nettle cordage

I misunderstood what you were looking for, sorry about that. Now, after a quick search around the sites where i find most such information, i find nothing that details the benefit from braiding cordage, other than the following quote: "Braiding is stretchless and thus good for fishing lines."...

    BUSHMANtz is ti me?

Getting a spark from a ferro rod, is only about the sharpness of the edge you are using. From what i gather, the knife in question is probably sharper on the back, out on the point, than it is closer to the handle. Sparks from ferro rods have nothing to do with the hardening of the knife...

    nettle cordage

This video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aBEdi-xH3U&feature=related from 2:35 and onwards, explains how to make nettle cordage, including removing the pith from the fibres. Though i must say, whenever i make cordage from nettles, i tend to break up the pith into smaller bits, and not pull...

    Purifying Water with Kelly Kettle

When water is at a rolling boil, if you're at sea-level, everything living in it that could make you sick, is dead. Going up in altitude from sea-level means that water boils at a progressively lower temperature, meaning that time will need to go up. As nicodiemus said, to be absolutely sure...

Can you non-stick your own pans?

A general rule, to stop food from sticking to a pot or pan, is to get the pan as hot as you can get it, then add your food. Also, use some form of fat that does not burn or evaporate. For boiling things, i guess stirring would be an idea. Other than that, i wouldn`t know.

    This Could Save Your Life

Gotta admire someone who`s taken as much flak as he has, about showing things on the tv, that is dangerous to those who are out in a survival situation, and still come up with something like this. I won't recommend, or bash it. But he is funny.

Why is my damper still sticky?

My guess would be that the water you add last, just to moisten it a little bit more, doesn`t work its way into the dough, but instead lubricates the outsides, making it sticky. It could also be that the dough has enough water even before you add the last bit, but you just need to incorporate...

    Save a crows foot

She might`ve been! :lmao: :lmao: Also, firecrest reminded me of something i did too. Smoke! I made a small smoking chamber, and smoked the claws for a few hours aswell. They now dangle proudly from the rearview mirror in my Toyota Corolla, along with a few of its feathers. (I know, i...

    Save a crows foot

Mix salt and baking soda in a plastic bag, pop the foot into it, let it sit for a week or two, it`ll be preserved. I`ve done the same with the feet off a bird that died from hitting the window. Works a treat! Edit: The salt is what does alot of the dehydration, the baking soda will help...

If you think that video is good, then you should check out the site where i found it. The site is in Finnish mind you, but the videos are all pretty good. http://www.kansatieteellisetfilmit.fi/videot2.htm Or if you run it through google translate, to get it in... Kinda-English...

What r the top 10 survival skills?

If i were to make a list, of what i think are the top 10 survival skills.. They`d go something like this: 1: Don`t get into a survival situation. 2: Have the mental acuity to do what needs be done, when it needs to be done, if one gets into a survival situation. 3: A calm demeanor. Hurried...

    Your most essential bushcraft tool

I think i`d rather enjoy life, eat good food, have a good drink, and be a bit overweight, than go to a gym once, twice or three times a week. Not to say that you can`t do the former, and still go to the gym. I know it`s possible to enjoy life, and still be a gym rat. It just isn`t for me...

    Peanut lighter

I don`t think they are all that resistant to wind. A zippo would be better i think, without having handled one yet. I have a couple on order, so i can get back to you on that. But if you cup your hands around it.. Well.. Should be better than a bic atleast.

    Peanut lighter

Countycomm doesn`t ship outside USA. I`ve emailed them on the issue, but only got a reply that they didn`t. They did however point me in the direction of someone who ships outside the US. http://www.endtimesreport.com/survival_shop.html (This is the link i got from countycomm, but if mods...

    Reaction to nettles in food?

Are you sure the potatoes were good? Potatoes can have a significant amount of glycoalkaloids in them, without having turned green. Boiling should remove the active stuff off the nettles, but cooking will only partly destroy the toxics in bad taters. Also, were the nettles young? Or had they...

    Whole Chicken in a Can

I`d rather eat a chicken in a can, than a burger at any of the fast-food places. Atleast with the chicken in the can, you can see that it wasn`t previously a rodent of some sort.

    'propellor' toys

I`m thinking that one could possibly whittle a wooden peg, with a large head, and then push it into the end of the notched piece, and it could work just as well as one with a nail. Though i`ve never tried that, but it should be possible. If you`re careful to make the peg smooth enough. Maybe...

How do I know if wood is seasoned for burning?

Oh, and i just remembered something about maintaining your oven/flue/chimney well. Yes, you do need to sweep the chimney... Well.. Once a year is what is regular in Norway. Once every two years should also be enough, IF, you know how to manage a proper fire. The fire needs lots of oxygen. The...

How do I know if wood is seasoned for burning?

Take a few similar pieces of wood, and bang them together. Well seasoned wood will sound differently, as to freshly cut wood. Also, it will be lighter as opposed to freshly cut. Those are two simple things to keep in mind when handling firewood of any sort i think.
