    Solar pannel query

Have a festival at the weekend. And a spare 250W panel (ex solar farm one) and a small compressor freezer, and a very hot weekend forecast..... The only thing stopping me playing is the freezer is anout an inch too high to go in the car upright. Not sure how happy it would be after lying down...

    Cooking with a Trangia stove

I have so many stoves, but when packing for anything other than a festival camp, I always end up taking the trangia 27 kit. Easy to cook on if you use the simmer ring properly. As mentioned, have fuel ready to do a refil. (I like the tip on having 2 burners!) The non-stick frying pans tend to...

    What is Allowed

I suspect that with so many people around the woods, the wildlife will have run off anyway.

    UK bushcrafters with firearms...

Back to the OP question... And possibly a couple of other topics that were raised. In the UK there are various types of target shooting. Short and long range precision. Rapid fire static or with the shooter on the move. With rifle, long pistol and even shotguns. When moving it tends to be...

    Solar pannel query

12v cool boxes draw about 4amps, which is 48watts. A 13watt solar panel will get flattened by that and there won't be enough voltage for a cool box to work. We tried this at a festival, with a 100watt panel. It could just about run the coolbox in strong sun. But that was about it. A phone...

    UK bushcrafters with firearms...

Unless part of shooting sports or land management, the average Brit only ever sees firearms through Hollywood/TV. And possibly the armed police at Heathrow airport. Which leads to pretty skewed veiws. There are approx 2.1million legally held civilian owned guns in the UK. That is an average of...

    UK bushcrafters with firearms...

As TeeDee said. FAL is actually a Firearms certificate. FAC. (Minor hair splitting, but may avoid confusion). Getting a SGC you only have to show you are not a danger to the public. You may then have as many shotguns as you want (limited capacity mags and minimum barrel length of 24"). And use...

    Solar pannel query

The panel set at 13watts probably has no voltage regulation at all. But relies on a liesure battery being too big for it's 13watts to be able to overcharge. In that case the panels are going to give out between zero and about 19volts in full sun. Here's a quick and cheap idea to see if you can...

two way radios updated to cb radios

A lot of tangents in this thread so far.... Going back to the OP. Any comms system is only as good as whoever is waiting/listening on the other end. Breaking it into two senarios, calling for help in normal times and during **** times. In normal times, your best bets are the mobile phone...

    Close Encounter

A close encounter, but a very pleasent one. Out after deer last year, I was sat in a high seat for the evening. Facing out over a field, backing onto some scrub woodland, falling away behind me. A roe doe came out from the wood, about 40ft to my side. But does were not in season, so I just...

    Radio communications?

Have a look at the RSGB website. They are sure to have a list or search option for finding local clubs.

    Rats

If no-one else has suggested.... Possibly contact your local BASC group and ask if they have any airgun shooters who would like to help. I would be surprised if they didn't know a few who would would be interested. They get the sport, you get your problem solved.

    Planning Polish Lavvu.

The arm holes are designed to drain out. But if you pitch the thing inside out. ie. With the shoulder flaps outside. It can drain inside. A close look at the bottom of the arm, and you should see what I mean. I re-stitched the arm holes on mine so that any water getting through the flap would...

    The Covid19 Thread

I saw a graphic on the BBC news site the other day, to help people visualise 2mtrs separation. They had a drawing of someone holding a broom at arms length and the bristles touching another person. Now, I would love to see people carrying brooms en masse on the streets and ushering others away...

I had better make a decision now...

I had a converstion yesterday, with a friend who lives on a site that is under the non-residential planning laws. There was some confusion initially. His site owners said they would not throw anyone out untill they heard the legal position. But the next door site paniced and started shooing...

    USA Vs British Building Style

As an aside, google for some documentary films from the 60's, about an archetect called Walter Segal. He came up with a building method, initially just for his own temporary house (whylst he was having a conventional house built), but it caught on. It was basically a stick and bean structure...

    A Chalwyn Restored

I love the feeling of something rescue Really nice result there. I did a BAT lamp a while ago. Used a graphite type 'paint' on it. Came up geat though it can come off on your hands a bit when mauling it to refill etc. When doing the rust etching of parts that have an internal surface, I try to...

    Cereal - a bushcrafters staple?

Back to the porridge from the start of this thread (I've only just read it....) One of the things that did work well when trying freezer bag cooking, was porridge. Made from oart, non of this instant freeze dried muck. Oats, powdered milk, some raisins and sugar. Measured to take one full cup...

What is best for environmental reasons?

Even if the EV technology becomes viable, there isn't the infrastructure to support it. We only just have the generation capacity for our current (pun) requirements. Changing over to EV is going to require the mass building of power stations which needs to be starting right now. And unless you...

    Polish lavvu video manual.

Needs to include the lesson I learned at the weekend. Don't let your self inflating sleep may get under the edges of the lavvu, when you are readjusting the pegs..... Or you are in for an uncomforatble few nights!
