The Ultimate "What is this Fungi?" thread.

Hey folks. That time of year when I start spotting lots of shrooms I’d like to know what they are. Any ideas? 1) https://pin.it/4Q89LQB Growing from a rotting log 2) https://pin.it/6pQVzEO in open woodland (pine) 3) https://pin.it/6FEps2R https://pin.it/4WcML1d Growing by the dozen in...

    Call of the wild

I am sure I watched this on the “Showbox” movie app. It can be downloaded onto an amazon fire stick. Best of luck. ps. It is not as good as the book however did leave me feeling equally as sad at the end. But not for the obvious reasons. He lived his life exactly how he wanted to. Something...

A fabulous read and fantastic photographs throughout. Thanks for sharing that with us. It’s a place I would love to visit in the near future.

Most hard wearing and Long lasting clothing you own ( and the shortest before thrown)

Best : My filson tin cruiser jacket. Looks better every year. Transition from walking the dogs, in the woods to the town without looking out of place. Worst : a pair of Nike running shoes. Left them in the cupboard over winter. Came back and the soles had desintergrated off of them. Intp...

    Ridgeline elite smock latest model?

I own a monsoon elite smock but in checking about there is a new 2017 model the monsoon elite II. By all accounts they have changed the fabric AGAIN. It is no longer brushed on the outside (which is my main issue with mine as it holds water something terrible). The new model appears to also be...

    Cold weather jacket / smock

A mackinaw wool coat? (Filson, Pendleton, woolrich) etc. Warm, very water repellent, classic styling and won’t turn into a tea bag near a fire. I have a buffalo too and whilst great for purpose, is a bit “flimsy”

Which is the more breathable.. AEGIS or Gore Tex Pro?

More breathable doesn’t mean more holes... or less water proof. (Take the umbrella, 100% water proof and 100% breathable!) I digress. The “holes” are big enough to let moisturised water out (sweat in vapour form). But big rain blobs which are in liquid form can’t pass through. Jaeger hit the...

    Fjallraven query

I own many Fjällräven products. Despite the increasing cost....but that’s another issue. Including the singi jacket you speak of. For the Scottish weather (35oC, dry arid climate), quite frankly I find waxing the products almost pointless. I did a double coating / triple on knees and seat on...

    Cairngorm camping: advice please.

A nice route. Weather is getting pretty rotten so keep a dry base layer (top, bottoms, socks) in a small dry bag for bed time. No major snow forecast or LIKELY this early. You sound confident so make a route. Leave it with someone. Make sure they know who to call if you don’t report in at an...

Dog Chew / rawhide rambling and request for advice

It was warm / softened. The needle is extremely heavy duty (you get 2 types) and it has a nice long spool of heavy waxed thread inside it. A great wee tool yep.

    Leather Rucksack

Lovely. Dare I ask how much it weighs? Of the entire pack the thing I like most is how happy the little dog looks walking. Captured it perfectly! Makes me smile. Very nice. I do second the side pocket "sides" they don't seem to fit the pack quite 100%

    Swedish army cookset

Ps. Burning wood inside the aluminium wind guard will anneal the metal and make it very pliable and soft when it cools down. Just FYI

    Swedish army cookset

I'm confused. Is this to stop the ground being scorched? Just chose your location based on non / less scorching material? Pebbles, gravel , sand ....soil....or are you wanting to use it on surfaces?

A bit of market research for item of kit or supplies that tourists may want to buy?

Your going to need a bigger belt....😜

    Norwegain patrol pack build

The leather shoulder straps are far to thin to wear if you don't have body armour or thick clothing. Also. Canvas is a nightmare in Scotland. Just soaks up the water in the air even and gets heavy and damp.

    Norwegain patrol pack build

Got an almost mint condition one I'd just modify a fjallraven Greenland pack into one.

Cracking looking bit. Usually manage 2-3 trips a year with a small group. Sadly this year we haven't managed one. Still time yet I guess.. Lovely pictures.
