    15° plane bevel?

If you google "Scraper plane", it does look very similar to a number of modern equivalents, made by Stanley, Veritas and others. Those all have fixed, and presumably rigid, blades in them, but maybe with smaller frogs and blades.

    15° plane bevel?

Is that a scraper plane? It looks like the blade is set just slightly off the vertical which would be appropriate for a scraper, assuming the the sloping handle on the right of the picture is at the back? I use cabinet scrapers, which leave a really great finish, but dont have a scraper plane.

Trying out this carving lark :)

Off topic but... For info on the microwaving, microwaves will not heat up everything. Water molecules will heat up very well as will other polar molecules (oils will vary but some will be very non-polar). Things like plastics will often not heat up at all if you put them in on their own as the...

    Ebook readers

Same as me, I've had the same Kindle paperwhite for several years now. The newer version has a better screen. The memory is plenty for most people and if it fills up its easy to delete items on the device and add more to it as you need them. I often buy an amazon book on the train in to work...

    Gods Wonderful Railway

Tengu, to answer your original question, information on making claims for late running trains in the UK is here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/121354.aspx I've made many claims to Northern Rail in the past year or so as my daily train is often late or delayed, or...

    NiteCore R2 ?

I don't know about specific parts for that light but you can certainly get push fit filters from Nightcore for a variety of head sizes, including 23mm, 25.4m, 34m, 40m and 50mm here: https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/nitecore-accessories.html I've got one for a Nitecore P16 and though its not the...

Tarp recommendation for occasional shelter use, not sleeping

Thanks again for the replies. I settled with a DD superlight. Not the cheapest but it gets a lot of recommendations, is big enough for two people to comfortably shelter under and not too big or heavy to carry. Plus I can use it in future as a proper tarp for a bivvy or hammock setup. Golf...

Tarp recommendation for occasional shelter use, not sleeping

Some interesting ideas. We're not planning on going out on in terrible weather (Lake DIstrict is very changeable of course) and do have emergency bivvy bags already for emergency survival type situations. I was looking for something to use as a wind/rain break when needed. I'd like to be able to...

Tarp recommendation for occasional shelter use, not sleeping

Okay, thanks guys. I guess the Superlight Tarp "S" (smaller version at 2.8m x 1.5m) would be a little too small for real comfort for two people, whereas the standard superlight is 3m x 2.9m?

Tarp recommendation for occasional shelter use, not sleeping

Hi All I'm looking for a recommendation for a tarp or similar item I can use as an occasional shelter for bad weather, stopping for lunch etc. rather than for hammocking or bivying under. It will be used by two people maximum, we'll usually have walking poles for roof supports and probably have...

Fresh Hornbeam logs, what to do with it?

I'll have to take a look tonight. I originally left it in my garage which doesn't change temp much and is dry but due to needing to knock a door through from the house, I had to move a load of stuff out so it ended up in the shed, which is obviously like an oven now! The big piece split but i've...

    Polyester baselayer

I recently bought one of these "OEX Men's Barneo Base Top LS" from Go Outdoors. I'm tall and pretty slim and struggle with sleeve length too and this fits perfectly. It has plenty of sleeve length and includes thumb loops so it keep the back of your hands warm too, but you can easily fold the...

    H+S with Bone and Horn

When it comes to H&S in the UK, its often a good idea to have a look on the UK HSE Website: http://www.hse.gov.uk/dust/index.htm They are the masters of H&S in the UK afterall! Most dusts (and other hazardous substances) have local "exposure limits" set in the UK, EU countries, USA etc. which...

    Recommend a carving glove !

I just picked up a pair of "Showa S-Tex GP-1" gloves from Amazon, only about £7, cut protection level 4. My previous pair "Showa 541" cut protection level 3, were thinner and had better dexterity but i have few holes in them in important locations after a few months of use. They were great but...

Robens Klondike or Tentipi Safir 9 ?

Hi Janinet I was looking at the Klondike too. Had a "try" of one in a GoOutdoros store and nice as they are, I decided that a "SoulPad" would be better for me. The 4000 series (all similar size to the Klondike) come in three varieties to suit budget and spec, can be had with a stove outlet and...
