    25 spoons

This month I challenged myself to make a spoon a day up until Christmas, using a different knife each day. The spoons: The knives: Thought I'd be sick of it by the end but it's actually inspired me to keep going, carve other things and hopefully improve.

    Random confessions

I've had this potato (Violetta) in my fridge for ~ 6 months and have been intending to plant it for weeks.

    Worst advert ever

This made me laugh For those who don't know: the wrong part of the chain is being sharpened, the part which should be sharp is squared off completely blunt, and the sparks are flying the wrong way.

    Joker Bushlord

After a hasty name change from Bushlore to Bushlord, I think Joker may be onto a winner.

    Jack Hargreaves nutcracker

A few weeks ago my nutcracker broke then some days later I was watching Jack Hargreaves on Youtube and he showed this made from a single piece of hazel. So I had a go at whittling my own. The mk1 on the left works but the hinge is a bit loosey goosey. The mk2 broke so a TBS Badger is...

    Real Steel Cormorant mod

I was given a Real Steel Cormorant a couple of years ago and it annoyed me from the moment I first set eyes on it. I mean... What is this?! After stripping off the superfluous BS, what you're left with is a nice blade, like that of a paring knife, with a handle that's too short. Thus it sat...

    What's this tool called?

I've been trying to find a name or indeed any reference to one of these little rakes. My dad and uncle used to use them in conjunction with a brishing hook (bill hook) for cutting hedges etc. I've used them too but either never knew the name or have forgotten it.

    Stikkan

This was a xmas present from my mum to my dad and I got the job of mounting it. It's impressive in its robust build and effectiveness. I've split some well seasoned hardwood logs up to about 2.5 inch/65mm with no problem. 3 inch was too much. Handy for making small kindling in a quick and safe...

    Rehandling great-grandpa's cleaver

My great grandfather was a farmer, pub landlord, pork butcher and a bit of a character by all accounts. One anecdote involves him cleaning the pub chimney by shooting up it with his shotgun, for example. Sadly he died long before I was born but I've had his old cleaver for a few years now. I...

    What's this feather from?

    TBS Bushtool

I see the TBS Bushtool is available for preorder. The larger "Grizzly" version looks to be close to Esee 5 dimensions and price. It's also similar in size to the Fox Bushman which I own and enjoy using. The Bushman has rather specific uses since it's not small enough for fine carving nor long...

What level of finish is acceptable?

I was just mulling over my favourite knives for various applications, but this extends to any edged tools really, and a lot of my go-to blades came with one or more flaws, such as an uncomfortable handle, a blunt edge or a very wide angle edge which warranted some modification. Consequently I...

    Simple firesteel holder

Nothing groundbreaking but I thought the space between the buckles on this sheath was begging for a firesteel holder so I knocked one up with Gorilla Tape and aluminium eyelets. If I like it in the long run I may make one from leather. The knife is a Fox Bushman. Thanks for your perusal :-)
