what if you go out on a hike for a couple of days when you know it will be raining? surely you would take waterproof boots then? I use my leather non-waterproof boots at the moment, but I would not go on a hike if it is raining with them

    hiking boots or army boots?

even while hiking in the heatwave recently, water managed to get into my boots so high army boots must be a benefit (are they waterproof to the top?) are gaiters effective at stopping water getting in at the top of a hiking boot? are army boots more uncomfortable? thanks all, wondering...

    My Kit

You have a 4lt bottle, but I don't carry more than 2 litres when hiking. unless you are somewhere where there is not much water (does such a place exist in the UK?) I'd say carry less. I am even going to carry less the next time I go out, 1.5lts or 1.75

Here is my kit so far.

One thing I love when out is a nail brush to scrub my hands clean - as nothing else seems to get all the stubborn dirt off, especially if you have a fire

    quick drying shirt

I used the shirt hiking last week, it was excellent for the hot weather as it stays drier therefore is more comfortable and the smell does not matter when hiking (was not too bad). I doubt I will use these shirts unless it is very hot though, normal t-shirts feel much nicer on the skin. What...

Selling off the stockpile. Should I?..

When I am undergoing a house clean, I ask myself - "would I prefer the space created after getting rid of this or the lack of space from keeping it?". Most of the time I prefer the space and tidiness can you tell us what stuff or take a pic of it?

Here is my kit so far.

rope is handy if the hammock needs to be extended (depends where you go) axes are heavy, I can often do without mine. In fact I can pretty much always do without it. I think axes are for making things purely for the enjoyment rather than needing them on a hike/camp. In winter though, more...

after a backpack like : Lowe Alpine Strike 40+20 Litres OD

I own a karrimor bobcat 65 superwick. Karrimor seem to make a one size fits all frame now (or so I gathered from their website), but mine is an old medium which is a little too small for me, yet my back does not hurt after using it. These bags, compared to the one you posted, have a longer...

T.W Hammock to buy or not to buy ?

after spending the last two nights in my TW hammock I have noticed that if you turn to sleep on your sides, your face is buried in the hammock (it wraps around your face), this is bearable but annoying . I think this can be fixed by tying the hammock a little looser, but then sag sets in. My...
