What can I fit into 2 hours.....

My son wanted to go to the forest. He only told me this morning over a lazy late breakfast. 'Awesome' I thought. I put a bit of kit together into my rucksack and got some outdoor clothing on. We were putting on our boots when the wife told me I will be taking my daughter to her dance class...

Brrrrrr! A test of skill and patience....

It's cold and wet. Rained hard for about an hour last night to. After a nice slow and steady start to the day the wife decided that she wanted some peace and quiet, so me and the little ones were banished to the forest...... I packed my hip pack with extra hot chocolate and some goodies for the...

    Wet, Chilly and rubbish pictures.....

We agreed last night that we would go out as a family to the forest. We woke up this morning to a cold, wet overcast day. I'd packed my erm, pack, the night before so after a hearty breakfast we threw children, dog and pack in the car regardless. A short while later, with chatty children in...

    Night time, rain, fire lighting.....

In the words of Ned Stark, 'winters coming....' Now is the time for fresh torch batteries, to sharpen your tools and your skills. The cold and the damp, combined with high winds in open spaces will test us all over the darkening days. Over the coming evenings and weekends, I intend to brush up...

    First ever Chaga haul!!!!

Out on an evening bimble I came across my first ever Chaga find. I left it alone and carried on with my walk. All I could think about was that Chaga..... I returned to the birch tree I found it on and using a hard wood stick I prised two good sized lumps off. I left more than two thirds of the...

    Mountain forest wandering

Having managed to get a day to myself (I know, how selfish.... :) ) I took a look at the map to see if there was anywhere within 30 minutes driving distance for me to go for a wander. Right on my door step is the Teutoberg Wald, a series of forested low mountain ridges. I have never been, so...

    Fresh water mussel find!

Went for a quick bike ride with my little girl. Near us is a nice lake surrounded by trees. As it was still warm, we went for a paddle. I was wearing my Polaroid sunnies so I could see into the clear water without it reflecting. Looking down into the shallows, we saw these beauties...
