    British army arctic sleeping bag

They are so good, when I moved to the USA, the only bit of camping gear I took with me was my arctic issue sleeping bag. I have never had a sleeping bag as good as that one and I never want to be without it. The only camping I've done here so far though, it was 80f at night so a sleeping bag...

    whistling arrow heads!

I don't have any photos at the moment, but the ping pong ball method works really well. I did a modification to some of mine a year or two back. Instead of using a ping pong ball I used the ball out of a roll on deodorant stick (I used to work at a factory that made the sticks). You just drill a...

How can I preserve snake skin?

They will eventually fall off anyway, but the pattern is in the skin not the scales. If you were to put a finish over the scales, after a while you will have patches where the scales have lifted and no finish. Taking the scales off you still have the pattern and the finish will stay put.

How can I preserve snake skin?

I checked with my buddy this morning who does quite a few snakeskins. It's the flesh that is smelling. Wash it in mild detergent, very carefully flesh it. If it's a small adder don't even bother fleshing it as you will probably end up tearing the skin. Tack it out on a board and let it dry. Once...

How can I preserve snake skin?

Snakeskins are easy to use. Just flesh it, roll it, bag it and put it in the freezer until you are ready to use it. A lot of people here in the US use them for bow backing. When they are ready to put them on their bow they thaw it out, soak up as much of the moisture as they can and then glue it...

Still cant read a complete post due to those *&$$£$* adverts

I agree with Mr Fenna. All the other forums that I am a member of, have a photo sizing rule. Usually the maximum width photo they will allow is around 600 pixels. The mods on a few even delete photos that are bigger than their maximum allowance. Like John said, it is really easy to edit the...

    Bow - Arrows

If you want some quick and cheap shafts, then visit your local B&Q. The 9mm pine dowelling will be what you are looking for. It's as near to 11/32" as you need. Just make sure that the 2.5m length is not jointed somewhere along it's length. I've used these for about three years, shooting NFAS...

    Scouts and bushcraft.....HELP... !!!

A lot of good advise already, but a couple of points you should always remember when teaching scouts. Some of them will only be ten years old so don't use big words and technical phrases. And one thing I was taught was that if you tell a scout about something they will forget it. If you show a...

    H + S hits the Scouts!

It's a sad fact that PC and risk assessments have become an integrated part of modern society, not just Scouting. When I was a cub scout leader we used to take our boys and girls on camp. We had a couple of brothers whose family were vegetarians, but guess which two were at the front of the...

    Sea fishing - rod license

Once again they seek to financialy burden the very people who care about our coastline. I would think that the authorities had their hands full enough, without having to police the beaches for 'illegal fishermen'. They would do better to work with the shipping companies to stop them dumping all...
