Auger bits - what are these for?

The two next to the countersinks are screwdrivers. Looks like someone tried to use them as chisels. The cone shaped twisted ones are called gimlets, they are for making screw starter holes so the wood won't split.

Excuse My Question, If it's been asked before

I have both and frankly like the stainless better. I always have a diamond sharpener in my pocket so that bit of maintenance is a breeze. Where i live the weather is hot and humid so I sweat when i hike or sometimes just standing up. The sweat makes a carbon blade rust quicker than salt water.

    Old wood saw

If you don't want to fool around with electric just throw a few cut up potatoes and water in a wood vat made to size and lined with plastic sheeting. Put in the saw or any rusted metal and wait a few days. Can't over do it and completely safe.

Dogwood's new/old drawknife, I am chuffed at last!

I have a couple nice old ones that work well, you can feel the quality and balance when you pick it up. The new stuff feels like junk if you make it far enough to pick it up. Most look so rough and cheap they don't get a second glance. My best drawknife was found in a junk store with rotten...

    Black Belt in Bushcraft

I tend to think of this endeavor as more of a "pass/fail" system. If you pass you go on to tell about it, if you fail the buzzards get your carcass.

    Cleaning up.

When I'm out camping I fill my cook pans with water and set them in the coals to boil, if anything is left in the pan at least all the germs are dead. Most of the time everything rinses out just fine.

    Question for woodturners

The only problem I know of with non-aligned centers is trying to perform precision center drilling on long pieces like flutes and kaleidoscope tubes. The hole will be twice the offset too large. So, if you know your offset you can use the smaller drill size to compensate. Not many turning...

Tom Brown - US wilderness bloke

If you can overlook the hype and ignore the religious undertones there is some very good information in his earlier books. Later he began to believe his own marketing propaganda.

    Hard buffing wheels for polishing?

If you are handy with a knife you can make a cardboard buffing wheel. Cut out circles of cardboard or stiff poster board or hard leather the size of your grinder wheel with the hole in center. Stack up enough to make an inch or less. When you get it all bolted together use a sharp chisel...

Would the real paracord make itself known...

I have access to a tester at work and we have found cord breaking anywhere from 180 pounds up to 785 pounds. The official parachute cord is rated at 550 pounds of breaking strength. We break the official US Army ParaCord at around 600 pounds. Always a bit of safety factor. It is made of nylon...

    Dismantled Mora

Oh, I thought he was asking about a plastic handled Mora. Of course a wood handle is much easier to remove.

    Dismantled Mora

I set the handle in my bench vise and use a hack saw to cut the handle away from the sides of the tang.
