    Non-VW van options for conversion

Sorry Paul, I've not been on the forum for a while as I got dragged out of retirement and have been working long hours! Only one more week to work now (doing a mate a favour), then it's back to the van. I will post some pictures next week.

    Non-VW van options for conversion

Yes I plan to have it finished by the end of October. I will add photo's to this thread as it progresses if that's ok. I'm lucky in that I was able to take early retirement, so I am not confined to evenings/weekends, I do tend to get interrupted by the missus though requiring jobs around the...

    Non-VW van options for conversion

Good point. The leisure batteries and distribution unit will be under a sofa at the front of the habitation unit. Wires will feed through under the shower/toilet into the 'garage' under the bed where they will be further spread up the walls and via the ceiling. I have addressed the problem of...

    Non-VW van options for conversion

It's a 2012 model. Mileage is high at 114,000, but I would expect it to reach 300,000+. It is in extremely good condition though, the cab area being like new and it drives like a car. (Apart from the poor turning circle!). There are pro's and con's with older/newer vehicles. Older vehicles tend...

    Non-VW van options for conversion

There is a lot of planning. For instance, I wanted the wiring behind the lining, purely because I don't like to see wires anywhere! So you need to plan where you are going to have lights, the fridge, the cooker (12v igniter), aerial booster, 12v sockets, 240 volt sockets, leisure batteries etc...

    Non-VW van options for conversion

Here goes! First the blank canvas; Glued in (Stixall), some 25mm roofing battens; Insulation laid on floor; Floor template took some planning; But turned out ok, floor was 12mm WBP Plywood, I varnished all of the edges; Next job was to cut holes in the van...

    Non-VW van options for conversion

I'm very much a novice at fitting out vans, having previously owned a coachbuilt motorhome. I have not done a great deal yet. I have fitted the floor, 4 windows and built the bed platform. If you want to see some pictures, have a look at the following...

    Fancy a job in Canada?

It would seem that they are not interested in foreign workers.

    Non-VW van options for conversion

I am currently converting a 2012 Renault Master 2.3 CDI. Mine is the LWB extra high roof version, and it is huge inside, yet still quite economical. I'm very pleased with it so far. It's not cheap though, windows, cooker, fridge, rooflights, water boilers, heating, lining etc. etc. It does all...

Mobile charging without access to electricity - What are the options?

I can also recommend the EC Powerbank. As said, 12 charges no problem.

carrying metal objects during a thunderstorm?!

Strange how differently a lightning strike can have an effect. A friend of mine was watching a football match during a storm. when somebody approached him and said "Do you know that you have just been struck by lightening?" On inspection, the spike on the top of his umbrella had a hole punched...

    my graceful old lady

Lovely gun. I have an old TX 200 which has served me well. I am about to replace it with a new TDR but I will be sad to see it go.

    Breakfast outdoors

I just tend to use the small (4 slice) packs from the Supermarkets which are about the size of a thinish steak. I often cook mine on a Cobb BBQ, and yes it will stand a little bit of Flame, it's good for the Crackling! I then dice it and throw it in with the beans. Makes a great breakfast...

    Breakfast outdoors

I do pretty much the same, but often with well done Belly Pork slices rather than the Bacon, marvellous comfort food!

    Cooking in the woods!

Excellent. Pure comfort food. I often make it as a stew as well, same ingredients as well as a couple of Carrots and some beef stock.

Van conversions - anyone done one?

I think the statement on the www.gov.uk site pretty much covers it; Statement It is a legal requirement that all UK registered vehicles are classified correctly on the V5C log book. All campervans, motor caravans and motorhomes fall into the DVLA category of "Motor Caravan". If you have...

Van conversions - anyone done one?

.................Yet more apologies. Having now discussed this on a Motorhome forum of which I am a member, I am assured that you do need to re-register the vehicle as per the DVLA document I posted earlier. I'll leave it to you to make your own decisions.
