    Turps- Why?

Both are solvents and do the job I couldn't tell you about the difference in finish they give. There is a personal choice whether you want to use something which is more sound from a renewable perspective. Turps is a plant derived solvent and hence a renewable. White spirit is produced from...

    ...become a full member?

Is it possible to subscribe to bushcraftuk to become a full member at the moment? I remember a big blue button at the bottom of the page on the old site but I can't find any information about it on the new site. I've had a search and a check in the faq. Apologies if I've missed something...

    What is this?

Looks similar chinese HSS-cabinet chisels on www.dick.biz. They say they are similar to antique european firmer chisels in their paper catalogue. Certainly looks a good age. Also similar in appearance to japanese tapered chisels (Bachi nomi) on the same site. Joe.

    Something to aspire too

I'd say north west coast native american influenced from the bowl relief carving. It's a contempory piece if you follow links on the site. Some great original artefacts from that part of the world can be seen at the Sainsbury centre on the University of East Anglia campus amongst many other...

The "Red Hunters Axe" by Cegga - first production run

Used mine briefly on clearing some small saplings on the overgrown allotment. Worked well good feel. Same experience as Dougster convex good for splitting small stuff but not much penetration, still chopped well enough. Going to have a proper use before deciding whether to have a go with the...

The "Red Hunters Axe" by Cegga - first production run

Mine arrived this morning. Smaller than expected and lighter. Compared to the granfors carpenters axe its not as hair shavingly sharp but the edge is much more convex and looks more resilient which makes sense. Mine was packed unmasked with a protective rubber like layer on which had held up...

    Gap Year

My advice is go with an open mind and you can have an amazing time wherever you end up. Everywhere has its beauty. If you engage the locals then you can't lose. Read up about the place but don't go with the guide book to much and you'll be cool and have some original adventures. If your...

    global warming vs pollution

As two thirds of our planet is ocean they have a greateffect on the carbon cycling. The ocean has a lower primary porductivity per unit area so it is thought to be just under half as said. Much of the facts and figures come from estimations and models so exact porportions are impossible to come...

    global warming vs pollution

It's am awful truth but one which will change. Evolutionary history shows mass extinctions at periods of climate and geographic change. One day the records may show a period of accelerated anthropogenic extinction just after the 19th century. Extinction or our serious reduction as a species...

    global warming vs pollution

The human population is around 6 billion and rising. People alrady migrate to escape famine, persecution and lower standards of living. The concept that rising seas will just mean people move to the next bit of land does not work. That is a longer term problem in the immediate 50 to 100 years or...
