Permethrin - where do you buy it?

Have you used it before? I use it all the time. Stick that 50ml into 3 or 4 litres of water.

Permethrin - where do you buy it?

If there is enough for one net, there will be enough for several items of clothing. You use a stronger solution for nets so it lasts longer, you use a weaker solution for clothing. It's not an exact science because some clothing is more or less absorbant than other clothing, just get the...

Permethrin - where do you buy it?

This one can be diluted for clothing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lifesystems-Ex8-Permethrin-Treatment-Size/dp/B0018BNWJG/ref=pd_sim_86_5/279-5491907-8144619?ie=UTF8&refRID=0G5K3A7XC78E99X15TB0

    Which kukri?

I pay around £6 or £7 for that one when in Kathmandu, I wouldn't want to pay shipping and import tax on that one. You'd be better off buying a second-hand British Army jungle knife (any variant), there are loads of them around, one for sale on bcuk right now in fact.

    snugpaxk sleeping bag advice

I'd avoid that one, too bulky and heavy if you end up carrying it on your back (IMHO). The Snugpak Elite series are the closest thing you'll find to Nanok.

    Dressing choices

That is why we have drills - reflexive responses to avoid over-analysis. Even the diving training teaches series of checks and drills and teaches not to over-analyse and not to apportion blame or dwell obsessively over what went wrong after an incident. Another acronym is KISS.

Do you sometimes think that you over-analyse things?

Alternatively, just use the old one as a training aid whenever you restock with a new one.

Of course, if you can get hold of them, the officers rations are the best http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid2810881928001?bckey=AQ~~,AAACcS3ahoE~,OSt6CCN6H-0R_rL1tF1Y6xWx9e-7k7W6&bctid=4332096703001

    Rat pack shelf life

The newest cold weather stuff will be expensive to buy as it contains a lot of food, I've seen too many trial versions to know what I'm eating these days, some of what I've had in the last few years still makes me gag as well, I don't like the sandwich thingies. The puritabs have to be...

    Rat pack shelf life

But we are supplied with bulk water in the field, or have to use theatre-specific treatment kit (such as the Lifesaver bottles issued in Afghanistan). The Millbank bag is no longer in service, so the Toms have no use for puritabs, on the odd occasions when they are needed, 6 is often not enough...

    Rat pack shelf life

The flameless packs have been on trial and in use for a while, but it adds to the flight safety risk and the hexi replacement was always on the cards. Interestingly, the puritabs were almost removed from the new rat packs because nobody uses them, but they struggled to make the actual...

    Rat pack shelf life

The quality control and packaging isn't what it used to be, a ration pack today will have a 2-year life as most of it is the same as the stuff on the supermarket shelf. There are quite strict rules about their use and storage in service. I believe that hexi has no shelf-life, however, it...

    Advice on water filter systems

The survival-straw type filters look like a great idea and can be slipped into a pouch or pocket. Great. But you have lie flat on the ground and suck like crazy every time you need water. Even then, you only get a mouthful and you'd have to spit that into your kettle or bottle. I'm...

    Advice on water filter systems

As sunndog states - filter first, disinfect last. It has to be that way around or else the chlorine is 'deviated' by the particulates in the unfiltered source water. The best devices incorporate different grades of pre-filters and filters, then the carbon polish. Bear in mind that your...

    Advice on water filter systems

This would be inadequate in most of the world where the real nasty bugs live. It's an attempt at hygiene that would work some of the time, but there are no shortcuts with hygiene. One or two bugs on their own can cause illness. All of the bottle filters will become mouldy and manky inside...

    Advice on water filter systems

It's basic hygiene really. Keep your clean stuff clean - water, food, etc. Keep anything wet or dirty separate. I've never understood the obsession with cooksets where the burner is stored inside the pot. Far better to keep the burner in a separate pouch and use the pot to store food? I...

    Advice on water filter systems

Yeah, the chlorine dioxide tablets are more effective against cysts, etc. I believe they may also be healthier than chlorine tablets. I've used iodine and chloramination chemical methods in the past and I get chlorine tablets free at work, but chlorine dioxide tablets are my preferred option.
