    Do Everything Trousers

5.11 look OK but I don't see where they will take knee pads like the OP wanted unless the pads go in from inside the legs unfortunately I suspect the following suggestion is too expensive but just in case take a look at Triple Aught Design's Force 10 AC Cargo Pants...

    Down DIY

IMO the best way to handle/transfer down when it comes to stuffing a quilt is to us a down eductor - google "down eductor" and "Lance Marshall" for details - I used a down eductor to make a small underquilt for my chair so I could sleep on it and stay warm: my notes...

    Hammock chair help

locked brummel eye splice is the most common splice I use, I also use an end splice to make the ends look nice but typically I just melt the ends of the cord, I also use a constriction section for the UCRs that I make which is sort of a splice I guess

    Hammock chair help

more likely the cord will be more slippery when the coating wears off - the cord I use a lot (Dynaglide) is like that and is the reason I use splices more than knots with the cord

Found these on my hammock trial out

good diagram of Mercurialis perennis, aka Dog's Mercury: https://s10.lite.msu.edu/res/msu/botonl/b_online/thome/band3/tafel_018_small.jpg from the diagram I agree that it is Dog's Mercury that the OP found

    Angle of dangle

better question is how does it feel when laying in the hammock diagonally? looking at the pic it looks to me to be a slightly greater sag angle than normally used (normal is about 30 deg. down from horizontal) but not having a protractor handy I can't say what angle you have.

    Hammock ridge line.

assuming you are talking about a structural ridge line (SRL) one approach is to hang the hammock so you have an approx. 30 deg. sag angle for the support lines then measure the distance between the ends of the hammock (where the SRL would normally attach) and make your SRL be that distance as a...

    Meths Fuel bottle

a couple minor notes 1. meths in Alu bottles without an inner plastic coating may cause the Alu to corrode on the inside of the bottle 2. meths in plastic bottles for a long time (over a year) may leach out the plasticizers and the plastic will crack - this has happened a couple times to me...

    Tarp cord

in the somewhat unlike event you are referring to my setup here is a pic showing what I use for adjustable knots with the 0.8 mm fishline : https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=D3938B2C1BC7898C%21134 please let me know if you are having a problem seeing this pic - I think its public for viewing...

    Tarp cord

the 0.75 mm nano cord is similar to what I use - 0.8 mm dyneema 200 lb fishline is what I use - note however the comment above about difficulty tying and untying does apply and thus one needs to be selective in the knots used - for example a taut line hitch is not a good choice for this line...

Tarps, are yours pre-rigged with guylines or not?

I leave the guy lines attached to the tarp with the adjustable knot part of the line closest to the tarp to allow for adjusting the tension while covered by the tarp when raining. The guy lines going to the sides are wrapped 10 times around the stake which holds well without using a knot...

    Shoe laces upgrade

I had a similar issue with gutted paracord I use for laces so after threading the cord through the eyelets I take the two ends and feed them through a fairly strong cord lock then tie a knot with both ends at the end of the laces so as to keep the ends from coming out of the cordlock - I have...

    Old El Paso Fajitas

instant refried beans is another side dish to extend this meal - I usually use the Santa Fe Bean Co. product - see pic: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91aFrXnYn5L._SL1500_.jpg - hopefully this product is available in the UK

In hiking around here on this side of the pond I will fairly often see black bears - probably have seen over 100 in the last few years - especially like seeing the cubs.

    Wood ID help (Photo heavy)

I have no experience with spindle - is spindle Euonymus europaeus? If so this site has some warnings about the poisonous nature of the plant and recommends caution when working with the wood to avoid breathing the dust from the wood.

    An unusual flower

among things I never knew: from Wikipedia under Other Uses "Cardoons are used as a vegetarian source of enzymes for cheese production. In Portugal, traditional coagulation of the curd relies entirely on this vegetable rennet. This results in cheeses such as the Nisa (D.O.P.), with a peculiar...

    nano paracord ?

I think a better choice would be the dyneema 0.8 mm 200lb fishline but I don't know what you want it for

Uses for used tea light casings?

I played with this a bit also - a loop of wire holding a twist of paper for a wick and olive oil (or any cooking oil) - would burn a couple hours or so depending on how much oil was used - the loop of wire held the wick fairly tightly so that one could adjust how big the flame was - bigger...
