Yes its an Aussie issue one... its got more conviniant eyeletes an such and im told its a little bigger than the UK equiv... They are not bad to use, I did for years, and then again I still do, mine cost me nothing but my time and freedom and they are an alround ok item... as for the price...

    Survive an Unexpected Night Out

I'll second BOD's sentament here, I was a Carrot skin for a while and we just used it all as training... no big deal really, mind you I was living in North West Queensland where tourists and backpackers would get lost on a weekly basis at times, we would just suit up and go to it after a short O...

    CapheVn Coffee Filter

Yes these are a great bit of kit, but I would say you paid too much... here they cost about 5000 VN Dong, about 50 cents... lol But sreiously they are a good buy for those who cant strain things with their teeth... Just a small cultural note on the coffee, as you say it takes a couple of...

    Bushcraft PLCE webbing

Hmmm... I think it would be safe to say just about all the anti-webbing members here... I wore it professionally for 10 years and to be honest its not a "bad" idea in concept but I still couldnt put anything in the basic pouches that wasnt intended to be sent down range... I tried a fishing vest...

    Bit of advice wanted.

jus hook a bugee cord into the eyelets on the corners, then around a tree and hook back onto itself, self tensioning and fast. tarp set up: select two trees a suitable distance apart, tie para cord to the corners (or bungees) then attach to the trees at about waist height, peg out the base...

    Bit of advice wanted.

For me I just bungee up my hootchie to some trees and throw down my mat and bag and sleep... that being said, you need to set the tarp/poncho so it cuts any wind that would blow through, i.e. peg to the windward side... set it up no higher than your waist and if needs be add a ridge line to give...

    Bit of advice wanted.

A.S. your list seems pretty good for a one nighter, a bivvi is nice but not a need to have item... Just need something to keep the airbourne moisture off, something to stop your body heat from leaching into the ground, something to eat out of & with, something to hold water and something for...

    1 - 3 day sack

A good 3 day pack to look at would be a plat-a-tac tropical sniper pack, sprung frame & very easy to use.... holds all I need for a long weekend or upto a week at a push in a hot climate. (no heavy sleeping bags, etc) Mine holds 4lt water,Katadyn filter, hootchie, HH hammock, rain kit, food...

    Titanium Spork?

A pointless item in my book, I dont know why they even exist to be honest... I have used my lexan spoon for years and recently started to use my own carved ones, anything I eat in the woods only needs a spoon, if I need a fork to eat it I just chop it up smaller before I cook it or use my...

    Uses for marble off cuts

If they are of a good size they would be good in the kitchen for making pastry and biscuts on... since the stone stays cold your mixture wont stick so its not so messy...

    Mosi Net with Hammock Question

Well for those with an Aussie Hootchie its pretty simple, when you set up the hootchie as a basic A-Frame there are 4 little grommets designed for putting the Mozzie net up, then you just tuck the net in under you ans metioned by Rappleby2000 and sleep soundly... Karl

    Dyeing army sleeping bag liners?

I use Dylon dye from the supermarket, follow the instructions on the pack and cant go wrong, remember to add a pinch of salt to the mix and to iron it once its dry to set the dye... then wash it all 3-4 times and you shouldnt have any worries with it running...

    Military Connections?

If I ever find the guy who came up with that line, I'm going to take him out and run him till he pukes, then run him some more till he pukes again and then run him again... then see if he agrees that pain is weakness leaving the body! :cussing:

    Your most essential bushcraft tool

I remember at the Jungle warfare school the students would rock up, all leand and hard athletic types to undertake the advanced Recon courses (about two months long) and by the end of day three we would be sending guys back out on CASEVAC because their body's had started to self distruct, and...

    luxury comfort items

Its a little metal filter, looks kind of like a tea cup on a saucer, inside is a mesh like filter and you just put the coffee in and pour the hot water through to make your coffee, it makes about one cup... literally... lol since most coffee here is drank over ice with loads of sugar (Ca phe...

What do the scouts actually do now?

Well I went all the way through from cubs to rovers and even became a leader for a while, but left when the whole thing became way too PC for me, that wa back in '94, went and became an emergency services cadet leader / instructor and ended up teaching the "survival" courses for them until I...

    Scottish Historical/Traditional/Ritualised fire making

Hmmm very interesting... I would be interested in finding if this will work... The principles make sense to me and I can see it in my mind... but then again I can see a lot of other things there too... lol... Seriously though it might be a fun experiment one weekend...

    NEW...improved Nessmuk

hmmmm.... lanyard could have been a hole and pin type thing, simply a hole (or two) is drilled down into the grip material and another through the side, a brass pin hammered through and rounded off... one "hidden" lanyard loop... Just an idea...
