I've been working on a batch of knives slowly over the last 2 years .
Some forged some stock removal .

It's O1 , 5mm , Irish walnut handle , brass fittings , with a forced patina , filed by jig sharpened by stone & diamond stones and then
cleaned up to...
I was wondering if there was any preferences in regards to the angles of knife grinds , depth , type and the angles themselves . Also which angles best suit the knifes main function . I've read that 20 degrees makes a good battoning blade and that between 25 and 30 are good for bushcraft blades...
My neighbour was discarding the remains of a tree from her garden . And I would like to know what it is so I can find a use for it . Be it mushroom growing or on the learner lathe or some other random fancy . So please if anyone could I.d it for me it would be great .

I've been working on a knife or two for myself to take to the moot . One of them has a many cracks on the face of the blade . I soaked it in the oven totally unaware of the pattern . As it came straight from quenching to be tempered. With only a quick wipe off . After a quick rub it was obvious...
I am going to forge a hammer head into a axe head . And while I was drawing out what I'm aiming for. I pondered on what temperature I should heat treat the finished axe . Any advice more than welcome .

I've made a whittling knife for a gift . The previous handle broke so I tried again . And came up with this . O1 steel & I'm told the wood is hazel .
It still needs a good clean up and final sharpening /hone . But I'm happy with it

Made myself a little wooden mallet today . Intended for the gentle persuasion of hot steel when I am learning on my forge . It's a guess that I'll need one eventually for the more delicate stuff .

I covered the metal tin lid and blade in masking tape .
Printed out a negative picture and traced it onto the tape using carbon paper .
Then carefully cut the stencil out of the tape using just a Stanley .
We attached a 9v battery with speaker cable ...
found this on one of my random searches .
And wondered if it would be any good for layering steel .
In regards to knife making & using up some of the off cuts ...
