Bear Grylls "Britain's Biggest Adventures". Mountain Rescue are not impressed.

I didn't see this programme (I don't have a TV), but it sounds like the local rescue team didn't approve of what he was portraying. http://cro.org.uk/britains-biggest-adventures-with-bear-grylls-broadcast-on-tuesday-22nd-september-2015/

    Women adventurers

I came across this on the indie this morning and thought some here might be interested: http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/activity-adventure/reese-witherspoon-in-wild-an-all-too-rare-story-of-a-woman-on-a-solo-adventure-9971130.html Lois Pryce has an interesting point. There are some...

    Bell Tents!!!!

We've got a BCT 4m bell tent as well. Had it about 3 years. It's a pretty much standard bell tent shape, well made and solid. Ours has a zip in groundsheet, which is attached with 2 very substantial YKK zips. The standard centre pole is a big steel thing, which we replaced with a wooden pole...

Hunter Gatherer Challenge- Wilderness Survival Skills (may want to grab a brew first)

Thanks for taking the time to do it - a really interesting write up :-) Gave me a few chuckles too Looks like a tough challenge - functioning effectively whilst short on food and in cold wet conditions is really hard, serious kudos for doing such a good job of it. But what is it with you and...

A fast-ish, one and a bit day trot through the southern Yorkshire Dales. With cake.

Thanks for that Decorum, it's nice to know :-) I always try and let people know that I'm not some kind of uber athlete, I started out as a reformed smoker and boozer, so there's nothing I've done that others can't if they want to. I learned from another reformed smoker and boozer who was two or...

A fast-ish, one and a bit day trot through the southern Yorkshire Dales. With cake.

Thanks :-) I'd have liked to carry on and do the full day on sunday, but I was worried about worsening sunburn and stomach cramps. I put in a good day on saturday though. for comparison - here's a man who makes me look like a one legged octogenarian :-)...

A fast-ish, one and a bit day trot through the southern Yorkshire Dales. With cake.

This weekend was the weekend I'd set to go running, and very sunny it turned out to be..... http://cavehare.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/2-day-camping-run-run.html

A fast 2 day trot through the southern Dales

Ouch, uncomfortable stuff :-( Good that you're getting back to it though. You've got some fantastic local scenery to run in. A 2 dayer across the Forest of Bowland to Ingleborough and back would be a good trip, there's plenty of scope to vary the route to avoid a straight 'out and back'.

Seconded. Plus some extra words to get past the short post limit.

A fast 2 day trot through the southern Dales

http://cavehare.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/2-day-camping-run-food.html Food! Did a trial of the mushroom cheesy porridge last night, which led me to tweak the amounts slightly. The Lakeland 'boil a bags' work well - boiling water in ordinary freezer bags has never worked well for me.

    Walking for weight loss

I'd second what Mark said with a few additions of my own ( bearing in mind I'm a fell runner, currently researching nutrition for running ultramarathons. I'm not trying to put you off running as such ). First up forget about running/jogging, at least to start with. When your heart rate goes...

A fast 2 day trot through the southern Dales

That's a handy tool, thanks :-). It's worked out the distance and ascent for day one about the same as I did, but a lot quicker than wheeling the map wheel around. Day two is looking a little shorter, so I might not end up doing a full 100km, and with half the ascent of day one. Suits me :-) If...

A wet weekend in the Dales.

Interesting report, thanks for sharing. It's a beautiful area. Bad luck with the weather, it'd been lovely round there the weekend before. Mind, the weekend before that it ****ed it down. Congrats on the 5 weeks too. Keep it up, it gets easier as time goes on.

A fast 2 day trot through the southern Dales

Hi all, with half an eye on training for next years Fellsman, I'm planning a fast 2 day trip through the Dales later this month. The rationale: http://cavehare.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/2-day-camping-run.html The initial planned route...

    Inov-8 Footwear

I think they had some quality control/design problems around 18 months-2 years ago. I had the webbing eyelets on a pair of roclite 315 and a pair of 295 disintegrate within a couple of months of purchase. They replaced the 2nd pair under warranty (I didn't ask with the first pair) with no...
