Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (29th July - 10th August) available until April 6th, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
I have worsening arthritis, particularly in thumbs and wrists, and when I came to use a ferro rod yesterday I could generate enough force to generate decent sparks.
I’m interested in any adaptations fellow sufferers have made in their bushcraft activities, either due to arthritis or other...
My wife just ordered from Temu. I’ve seen some very interesting “bushcrafty” things on there but the prices are so low as to be alarming!! First aid pouch with molle attachments on a tear away Velcro panel, internal compartments, even a little “morale” medic patch. Total price £5.07!!
They could...
I took delivery of a signaling mirror today, and while relatively cheap (£3 I think) I was surprised to see my reflection looking like one of those “hall of mirrors” fat/thin weird mirrors.
I know I’m not a handsome man, but this distortion was disappointing.
First thought was how will this...
Sure fire Maximus and Minimus have a twist ring that lets you have any light output between 2 and 500 lumens.
I love the idea, but not the price tags.
Does anyone know of other models that have this variable output capability?
I have a couple of old self-inflaters which now aren't holding air. The corners by the valve has worn, which I patched with stormsure which held for a couple of years now. They air not holding air now. I tried the old "bath of water" to check for punctures. I found a small puncture in each mat...
I have a couple of old Paramo fleeces coming to the end of their lives. Their press stud cuffs are the best feature I've ever had in a fleece. Having the ability to roll sleeves up last the elbow is great for regulating heat. I also love the parameta fabric; quite wind resistant but not too hot...
I know of The Bushcraft Store in Enfield and World of Bushcraft in Bakewell. Are there any other bricks and mortar bushcraft shops? (Not just grotty surplus stores with the odd knife)
Cheers

I have used a variety of notebooks over the years to record my "useful" information, e.g. notes on tree id, carving designs, tool and kit info, etc.
but always the same problem of not being able to add in extra info after the first entry on a topic as my knowledge grows or having unrelated...
Like the title says are there other alternatives to Sweden for an easy wilderness trip.
I would love a week's canoeing, in a wilderness setting, that is further south, as my wife will want a week on the beach.
Any suggestions?
I picked up some seasoned wood (beech I think) in the woods to have a go at carving. It was hard for me to carve, and nie on impossible for students of mine.
What woods would you recommend for beginners?
Cheers mi dears
Can you suggest any bushcrafty activities that don't involve edged tools for use with early to mid teens. They aren't safe with knives (long story).
Give me your ideas!

for £25. Roughly half price...
I am after a new "woods" jacket. I would love ventile, but it's a bit too pricey!
Next down the list is a Fjallraven, but again quite pricey.
Nearly all cheaper jackets seem to have a waterproof membrane, which just make them sweaty, even when they claim to be breathable.
What is the point...
I've seen a couple of references elsewhere to people waxing ventile.
My gut reaction is this would be counterproductive. Surely you want the fibres to absorb water to swell.
Am I wrong?
Thinking of buying some decent binos for when in the woods. 8x and 10x seem the common magnification. Is there a reason you would choose 8x rather than the higher mag 10x? Isn't 10x better for seeing wildlife?
The wisdom of the collective will be gratefully received
Is there a cheaper alternative to the two above-mentioned torches that are infinitely adjustable in output?
Is there a reason there aren't more variable torches? It seems the future of LEDs.
I fancy a kukri and really like the look of the condor heavy duty.
I'm looking for opinions from actual owners: good, bad or meh.
Also, a few questions.
It's spec says high carbon steel. Can you get sparks of it with flint? Is the spine square enough for a ferro rod?
I understand it...
Many will know this already, but Jerky is really easy!
I've just finished my first batch and am having to fight off my grandkids with a big stick; they love it.
Here's how I did it (I'm not kidding myself that this is the only way)
Half a pound of lean stewing steak. Leave in the freezer...
I bought a Fjall Raven Greenland jacket off eBay, size 48/50. Sadly this is not inches.
It measures 23" pit to pit. It is in well used, but reasonable condition generally, but there are a couple of small holes near the bottom, and the male part of the top Presstud is missing.
I have tried to...
