    Driza-bone Parka (size 7, XL, 115cm chest)

Hi everyone! I'm a massive fan of this waxed cotton parka, but it's just too big for me, so sadly going to have to move it on. Just wondered if anyone had anything they wanted to do a swap for (whether that's other outdoor clothing or other!)? It's in pretty great condition, some wear and the...

Victorinox straight blade for my serrated

I have a Victorinox Skipper folding knife, which while it suits me very well, has one slight drawback. The blade is serrated along most of its edge, which although it cuts very well, I have come to prefer straight blades, as I can easily sharpen them. Before I regrind it all straight, I was...

    Dont batton with your knife

Just to add my opinion to the pot, I am very happy to baton my penknife, it just happens to be a fairly sizeable khukuri... :p (I maintain that my khukuri is the single best tool I have ever bought, from a man in a village in Nepal, for about £8. It is seriously epic at chopping through 4+...

    Mess Tin - £1

In case anyone is interested, I spotted poundland selling mess tins for a pound each. Unfortunately, they only have the one size, so no nested pair, but might be of use to somebody. I personally carry one in each side of a rucksack, as they fit perfectly like little drawers, but at a pound...

    Axe Restoration Project.

I need to find me a good source of old axe heads! I rescued an old Kent axe head very similar to yours from the Scout axe box, fettled it up and rehandled it, it was a great tool. Unfortunately, I broke the handle, so it's waiting for me to make another...

    Leather

I am in the process of making my first knife, and have got to the point of making a sheath. I have lots of questions, so please bear with me. I roughed out a design the other day, and have worked out that I need about 1 square foot for both that and an axe sheath. From what I have read, I think...

A bit OT.... I have a pillar drill

Yes, it is the same as bike gears. In the picture, the belt is on the top groove, which is the fastest drill speed. As you move the belt down, the speed drops. Just make sure you keep the belt running between the right grooves! (parallel ones)

    Leather

8 oz, correct me if i'm wrong, is the thickness as well. I think it translates to about 3.5mm, but that might do the job. Thanks

    Leather

Does anyone know where I could get a small amount (say 1 or 2 fixed knife sheaths) of 8oz veg tanned leather cheapest? Thanks

    Waterproof Jacket

I am trying to choose a waterproof jacket for D of E and general hiking, but am lost with all the different types of materials and brands. I am looking for a layer that will keep me dry(ish) after a day's walking in the rain, pack down pretty small, and be breathable, around the £60 mark. A...

    HELP! Knife making fail...

Thanks again for the replies, Sounds like i'll be alright then. Do any of you have any tips for the actual soldering? I'm told you use borax flux, although I have found some silver solder with flux on the outside. I only have a butane torch, is that going to get hot enough, and if so, not damage...

    HELP! Knife making fail...

Thanks for the reply, and thanks to whoever posted the pic. Will it have any major strength effect because of the different hardness just there? And I have already decided to use soft solder, though I will try take the (useless) lead free solder route, just in case I end up prepping game or...

    HELP! Knife making fail...

Hi, I am in the process of making my first knife, and got to the point of attaching the guard to the blank, using silver solder. I failed, due to inexperience, but have damaged the temper in the middle of the blank. Has anyone got any ideas about how to resolve this problem? I have visions of...

    Gear for pennies challenge

Army style nesting mess tins can be bought cheaply, made by gelert, I got mine from here, http://www.charliesdirect.co.uk/products/gelert-2-piece-camping-mess-tin-set , may not be the best place, but I can vouch for the mess tins.

    Kent Axe

Thanks for the quick replies! I may do some carving with it, but it may be used more for splitting small firewood. I think it will probably suffice for my purposes, and even if it doesn't, it won't have cost me much and there are always other axes around.

    Kent Axe

I am looking at getting my first axe, and I have my eyes on an old Kent Axe head to restore. I am looking for a small hatchet for scouting type activities, and was wondering whether a Kent axe was a suitable type.

    Knife Handle Wood

Thanks for the replies. I'm not really intending to get it resin treated, I'll just keep going, and hope it doesnt crack any further. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll make another one out of peach, which is really dense, so might work better.
