    A lucky shot

I've been here for a long time, but haven't posted in ages. My brother actually took this photo of his hammock on a June evening last year, (I was busy cooking dinner - if you look carefully you will see a spit in the bottom left hand corner of the pic) - and for me it sums up the whole ethos of...

    Getting back on board

Just a thought, gents. If you want someone to cough up real dosh to join (I was a full member for several years before letting it lapse last winter), then you might want to have a big red button or something similar to let people subscribe their hard earned cash. It is way too complicated at...

A knife, an axe, a saw.

Knife, for sure. Hard call between the axe and saw, but I think I'll plump for the axe. (Hard to rough out a spoon blank with a laplander... :) )

    Mr Mears on Radio 2

I thought it was pretty fascinating - his views on the death of his first wife and so on, and the story about the encounter with the grizzly was worth listening to.

What films have you watched recently?

I couldn't agree more - best telly since The Wire.

    Commercial vs hand made.

Handmade wins every time. I'll gladly carry the extra weight if necessary. You cannot compare factory-produced with handmade, and if something goes wrong with the item, you have come-back with a human being rather than a faceless company.

    New tarp and lunch

Great set-up. And nice to see a dry forest floor - had almost forgotten what that looked like!

    Ash Hurdles

So heartening to see practicality and beauty aren't mutually exclusive.

    Leather Jerkin (wool lined)

Wish I had the dosh for this one - it truly is a buy-it-once-in-your-life opportunity. My grandfather had one, along with leather gaiters, and they lasted him decades. Good luck with the sale.
