    Hatchet, machete or parang?

I use a Bill hook for work, and found it to be a lot more versatile to a machete, and as has been said, it looks more "Agricultural" than a machete, so less threatening to some body wandering where they shouldnt be. I was copicing & Hedge laying with the BTCV earlyer in the year, and a large...

A novices first Axe - First steps into Axemanship

I've just bought a Forge Steel 2 1/2lb axe, it feels good, solid, and reletivly light, and I normally take either a 3 1/2lb or 1 1/2lb, depending on the area I'm visiting, all made by tool firms for about £20 as I dont want to take a GB out with scouts. GB Axes are nice, in fact my Scandinavian...

    Sissy Sticks

I use, and teach the sissy stick to my scouts, though I didnt know it was called a sissy stick, I thought it was called "that handy twig that stops seperating digit from body, while using sharp, heavy hitty thing."

Willem Dafoe's rucksack in the film..The Hunter

Just started streaming, cheers for the link biker. The opening scenes remind me of the "Saigon, **** still in Saigon" bit from Apocalypse now. Think I'll be looking to add a crossfire to my little collection next pay day, thanks guys.

    doing a dick proenneke

I think the sticking point for most of us is the money. Land, Re Supply flights, and initial set up cost in kit, are about the only outlays, but I think the cost of the first two is too much to be done on your average budget.

Jobs involving the outdoors - Suggestions?

Hi s'etonner I'm wanting to get a job involving the outddors in a similar way. I've been working as a security guard since 2001, and was working 90 hours a week until the begining of 2010 when I lost my job. Since then I've decided its time I did something I love, and since I love the...

    Fear of the dark

Hey, the ammount they were paying me they'd have to be bloody lucky if i wasnt asleep. Honestly I dont know what the fuss is about, In the UK MAN is the apex hunter. Their are no Bears, Wolfs, Tigers etc, and any one who's scared of the ghosts is plain daft. Theirs only one animal likely to...

Buying woodland? Is it worth it?

TBH, I'd love to own my own woodland to live in, wether I run it as coppice or a greenfield campsite or whtever would depend on how big the site was and what sort of location it was in. Ideally, for me I'd like enough of it to live in, hunt in & provide firewood & forage, but, regretably, thats...

Look what you'll be hanging your hammock with in 5 years time...

To be fair though, "if I buy that hammock/Para cord/Rope(delete as required), will it evolve into something that will wrap me in a cocoon, and drink me alive?" isnt high on the questions I ask before buying kit.

    Lost opportunity?

I think this is the problem. When we are in a group, most of the time we can tell by body language & tone wether its a specific dig, a moan, or just a general comment, what is meant. The odd times we do take offence, our response(at least to begin with) is measured, so it will take a while for...

I understand where your coming from wayland, but I'm skint, I cant afford the £520, in fact I cant afford £5.20 until I get a new job. I'd love to do it, but sadly Cant. Gear would be a problem even if I could.
