    A rant!

Seconded, I remember the first time an instructor showed me that it was possible to hold the knife still and pull the fero rod up across the spine of the blade. Revelation, no more scraping down and putting the flames out, knocking the tinder flying etc etc. Or carefully scraping flakes off in...

Overnighter with the lad at the local spot

Actually, just checked, he was four when he went on his first 'wild camp', it was July 2014 on the beach, I thought it was two summers back but I was wrong. Two nights under the trail star, I learnt a lot from that, especially about how scary tides are when they get within 10 feet of your...

Overnighter with the lad at the local spot

Adventure is the word we use too. Always a 'mini adventure'. After I Got divorced I went from going out maybe twice a year to twice a month.... bit of a drastic approach though! :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Overnighter with the lad at the local spot

Hi Alreetmiowdmuka, Jack's first overnighter was at age four (corrected from three), two nights on the beach and we've been lucky enough to get how quite a few times since, he's 5 now. He has an SAK of his own which he carries himself and is trusted with although he is under strict instruction...

Overnighter with the lad at the local spot

Thank you! :-) He's eager to get out when we can, we do a lot of beach camping, not enough bushcraft but I'm keen to change that...

Overnighter with the lad at the local spot

Site sorted, had spotted it on a walk earlier in the day, setting up to make things more comfortable. Hope he remembers where he put it... All set Safe knife skills, I upgraded him to a Mora but neglected to take photos. Had the obligatory chat about arteries and not to cut them...

Recent beach overnighters / weekenders / holidays with the trailstar, bell tent etc

Yep sure are, not far away at all. :-) Runswick on my 'to do' list as well. Had a look at the Cleveland Way between Scarborough and Cayton Bay yesterday, lots of evidence of careless camping, lots of rubbish, trees / branches sawn down for fire wood still living, there was evidence of long...

Recent beach overnighters / weekenders / holidays with the trailstar, bell tent etc

Yep, they're pretty good, my tactic is to use osmaps online which I have a subscription for to check the most likely spots, recce them then do a nighter to check them out. If you want to do some swaps when you have a few let me know! :-) haha, just spotted your location, its a good one!

Recent beach overnighters / weekenders / holidays with the trailstar, bell tent etc

Just a few pictures / comments from recent overnighters / weekenders with and without the little people, been under 'canvas' of some description every weekend at least 1 night in last 7 weeks. :-) That's if you count the bell tent in france and cowboy cabin in Scarborough! Bell tent in France...

    First Coastal Weekend Planning

Hi Tank, Not sure whether this comment is too late or not, but here's what I did with a Trailstar: There were plenty of larger stones to select from, not sure this will be the case where you go. The tension on the shelter was fine, no problem at all. Sea got to within about 10 feet of the...

Wild Camping on the beach with my 4 year old son

Thanks for all the great responses. :-) Hope to do so fixed line fishing with him next time, the tide suits and we'll be in place to check and keep an eye on it, the beach is pretty quite so little chance of snagging dogs or people. I'm just working on the 12 meters or so of nettle cordage...

Wild Camping on the beach with my 4 year old son

Well, might as well start them young. :-) He's been on plenty of Scout and family camping trips but this was his first wild camp and on the beach too. PM me for details of location if you're interested. Not much bushcraft going on this time but I have some ideas for the next trip. I wanted to...

    Shelters!!

Thanks Ruud, was an experience building them. I appreciate much more now the effort that is needed to construct such a shelter. Collecting the leaves was an awesome task, even in a area that seemed abundant. Really needs consideration whether it's worthwhile vs calories expended, i.e. for...
