Why was the 'Why prepare' thread shut down..?

As in the title... It was a good debate and I get home from work and find it closed with no explanation.. Why....? Why are so many threads shut down on here when a good debate is going..? Why do we have to stick to such limited subject matter..? We are encouraged to use the search...

    Anyone remember Fenlander...?

I am sure many of you do remember him. I thought I would show you what he is up to these days. He has been keeping a blog of everything bushcrafty and it is the best blog I have ever seen, and is well worth a look. You may want to go and put the kettle on first, he has been busy...

There is a thief amongst us..

Got back from a day out to the wilderness gathering last night. I was saddened to hear that some scum had stolen a knife from the bring and buy stand. I know we are not all going to be perfect citizens, but to steal something from a fellow bushcrafter is very low. I hope whoever stole it...

    Fungi ID please..

Had to rescue this before a cow trod on it. I thought it was a giant puffball but the markings on the top don't look the same as those in Mr Phillips mushroom book. It was growing on open grassland. Its pretty solid and heavy. I thought the markings looked similar to parasol mushrooms (we get a...

    Musings about hemlock water dropwort..

Have noticed that hemlock water dropwort is having a very good year... For those that don't know about it, it is one of, if not 'the' most poisonous plant we have growing in the UK, proberbly Europe too. It is deadly if you ingest any of the plant. It grows around water sources and many river...

I have damaged my new sheath....

The knife went back in the sheath and has cut it. The sheath is 4mm veg tanned. I am planning on undoing the sheath and sewing up the cut, but if anyone has a better idea... Also, how would I prevent this from happening again..?

    Unusual knife ID...

Got given this... Looks African to me..? Anyone got any info on it or seen one before....? The sharp edge is on the convexed side. The handle is some black wood I think. The sheath is wooden with a leather wrapping.. I think its ornamental because the handle is not good to hold... The bottom...

Woo hoo....Just finished my first forged knife and I am well pleased..

This started as an old file. At the Cornwall meet we had Tristan with his mobile forge there and we all made things.. I decided to make a knife.. I hammered away for half a day making this... I took it home and wondered what wood to use as scales.. I decided on Banana wood.. Well that is what...

    Dear Walter....

Dear Walter: I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a few hundred yards down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's...

    Knife uses...Other than cutting...

Ok, its own up time... What have you used your knife for, other than cutting something.. Maybe its just other good uses you can do with a knife like splitting wood, or crushing garlic cloves with the flat of the blade etc etc..... OR Maybe those things you have used the knife for that...

    How the wind blows...

No work for me today... We are supposed to be putting in some big RSJ's (steels) on site today and the size of them makes it an awkward job at the best of times, but with this wind, it makes it a no no. We are having high tides at the mo and they reckon that with the wind, the tides will be...

A walk to the Looe...pic heavy..!!

Went for a walk to looe along the coast path today.. Had a great time, what a beautiful walk... Spring is well on its way now and life is showing all around. Walking down the lane to the coast, there were many plants in flower and many edible leaves. Along the cliff path there were many things...

Came across this umbellifer today and it has me stumped. Does anyone recognise it or have a clue ...? It was growing in cornwall on a cliff top next to the sea, so it could be stunted..

    Goldfinch..

I have set up a goldfinch feeder in the garden recently as there have been up to about 60 of them in the sycamore tree and I wanted to entice them into the garden... It didn't take long for them to find the feeder... Pretty little things, arn't they..

    Alexanders...

The alexanders in the hedgerow down the road here have been out in flower for a while, and some of the flowers are going over now, despite the fact that they don't usually flower until april at the earliest. (mind you, I am in Cornwall now).. As I have said before, I am going to do a lot...
