    that's not a knife...

I'd say this knife will go for anything above £500 with Ray having signed it. If the WS micarta ones are going for £200 - £300. and Alan Wood - Woodlore ones going for around £300 - £450.

    knife I made

I done the heat treatment on my BBQ with a little help from a hair dryer. Its only my 2nd knife,(bottom knife in photo was my 1st one I done, on a knife making course see this thread ) I choose Elm as my confidence towards working with the wood is not great. I have a piece of Lignum Vitae...

    knife I made

I got the steel from Cromwell tools. using a 3x30x500mm Ground Flat Stock section. Theres branches through out the UK. I started the knife last Friday, but just took my time. I'd say it took about 12 - 16 hours from cutting the steel to treating the handle. I've not put it to any use so...

    knife I made

I've used linseed oil on the wood. I hear a lot about this Danish oil, might get some of that to try out. I've sanded down the handle a bit more now. Heres a photo next to the WS woodlore.

    knife I made

Been working on this knife over the last few days, still needs a bit of work on the handle I think. The handle is made from Elm and the 01 steel for the blade.

    woodlands

Theres 4047 square meters in an Acre, I just worked it out to help me and anyone else visulise what a square acre looks like as I can relate to meters x meters.

    woodlands

Just worked out an Acre would be about 63 Meters X 63 Meters if the area of wood was square, So the Middlesbrough woodland would work out to about 210 Meters X 210 Meters Think thats right

    woodlands

This sounds like a good idea, im definatly interested, but I'd say woodlands for sale would only interest people within about 1 - 2 hours driving radius, which would reduce the number of people interested. meaning a bigger outlay between us.

    out today

In wet conditions, feather sticks cut from drier hart wood can give you a good start to a fire, then add twigs to the top slowly building up in size.

    anyone from northumberland?

I'm in Co. Durham, Im usally at home at the weekends. Where exactly is Simonside? Im fairly new to the area. I'd come along, learn a few new skills. :)

    Prusik Knot

I'd say a clove hitch would be the simplest and best knot for your basha, if your refering to keeping the ridge line tight.

    Bow drill - Bearing block

Me and my Mate have been wondering what would make a good hardwearing, longlasting bearing block for the Bow drill, that we would always have in our kit to take with us. He thought Ebony would be good to use but expencive. I've heard bone is good, but what bone would be best? Any thoughts...

Anyone here doing Woodlore's Fundemental Bushcraft?

Yea, very good review. Gave me a clearer picture as to what would be covered in the course, without giving too much away. Just been getting the remaining items required on the kit list today, So I think im all set.

Karrimor Kit - All at half price

Phoned up the Alnwick Karrimor store this morning, to ask if they had any sabre rucksacks left. They had the 45 and the 60 - 100 Lt ones, but at full price, it seem that none of the Karrimor kit was selling for a discount price there? :-?
