In my book, there are problems everywhere. That said, you could take it as a challenge and try scout camping. See if you can do an overnighter or weekend with no one knowing you were there. Just another way of looking at it. It may not be as comfortable as normal camping but satisfying. JMHO

Looks like a challenge for sure, I agree, I feel you should get a new handle, somewhat shorter and make it a large hatchet. From the view of the edge it almost looks like someone used it to break rock.

Just finished making a haft for a small double bit, (around 2lb.), making it a short axe or long hatchet at 24 inches. Now to hit it with some snow seal and put an edge on it. (I hope, the wood is an unknown, I think oak, and probably the wrong geometry.) Oh well, it was a learning experiance if...

I hear you, have run into more than a few myself. About the saw, some depends on what you are calling hot, they will get hot, to hot to touch after a bit. The harder you are working it the hotter it will get, with now paint and all it may seem hotter than it is. I don't know if this is the case...

Using a 50:1 mix gas and oil, the only thing I can think of would be the carb settings, improper mix through the carb can cause the engine to burn up, have that checked.

Did you grease the nosewheel? I have kept the bar cool just by over greasing.
