    Old canvas ridge/bell tents

Thanks for that. The group is new and ironically attached to Feldgendarmerie Trupp 82. The address of the WW2LHA is http://www.thelha.co.uk/index.html No details of the Resistance up there yet. I think my other half and I may have doubled the membership when we signed up at the weekend.

    Old canvas ridge/bell tents

My other half and I have just joined the French Resistance, or to be more precise the French Resistance group of the WW2 Living History Association. I'm on the lookout for either a military tent (British/French/German) of the period or a civilian tent (probably a bell tent). New canvas...

Perishable food storage (meats. milk etc)

I bought an army surplus Norgie food container after reading how long they kept things cool for. With a bottle of frozen water and some ice blocks I've been happy for up to 3 days. However I remember reading one post on a forum (it may even have been here somewhere) which said 5 days was...

    Rowan jelly advice

I fancy making some Rowan jelly this year and have found a couple of likely recipes. However I have read that there are different varieties of Rowan and the berries of some are not as nice as others. Can anyone tell me which berries would be the nicer to use and how to tell the varieties...

    Wiring a hood?

I have a German goretex parka with a very large and floppy hood. I want to wire it so that I can actually see where I'm going. Can anyone tell me what would be a suitable wire to use? Thanks

    socks socks socks!

I wear army surplus socks. The second-hand ones I wore with thin cotton socks as liners until they'd been through the wash SEVERAL times. Quite often my local store will do three pairs for a fiver.

    wild cherry?

The ornamental dark red leaved "cherry" trees very occasional produce some fruit. Certainly around my area the trees have a handful between them. They're difficult to spot amongst the leaves but will be delicious when ripe. I've got my eye on the two fruits I've seen on my neighbour's tree...

    wild cherry?

Well I ate several from trees alongside the Grand Union Canal last week and I'm still here. Although the area was once cherry orchards so these may well have been sef-seeded "domestic" trees. I'm not an expert.

Does anybody else hate DPM ?

I have, as I'm sure a lot of people here do, quite a bit of army surplus clothing, some of it OD, some of it in various camouflage patterns. However, I avoid british DPM as I'd feel a bit of a walt wearing it, especially as I have a short haircut (well what is left of it is short). For some...

    Fire & Uninterested Police

Fair point as I no nothing about US laws. I was trying to contrast that with some of the tales in previous posts and others related to me that it can be very difficult, if no impossible sometimes, to get the UK police to respond to a crime even whilst it is being committed. I know of a person...

    Fire & Uninterested Police

On the subject of police response, I have downloaded an app to my phone called Tune In Radio. Amongst the thousands of radio stations it gives you access to are, in some US cities, police and emergency services scanners. It makes quite interesting listening. Last night I was listening and an...

    Rat Packs.

Thankyou. At least I know I'm not risking a dodgy tum.

    Rat Packs.

End of shelf life? What's that? I've been eating rations that are almost 2 years out of date with no ill effect. LOL

    Rat Packs.

I haven't tried the syrup pudding but the sponge pudding and custard was "interesting". SWMBO had the chocolate pudding in chocolate sauce which she said was quite nice if stodgy. I find the main meals I've tried so far have all been a rather alarming shade of radioactive orange. The...
