    I did the same job last winter, made up a new handle from an ash pole,and used some large nails to make the rivets, nails were cut to length allowing enough extra for peening at each end. Find a nail that is a good fit in the holes in the metal head ,drill through the head with the new handle...

    I seem to find the most useful information is not found in any one book or just bushcraft books , but what is useful to me may not be to someone else. so there is a degree of personal preference in any book. I tend to look at what interests me and find this delivers the answers or another path...

    Well the mead is in demijohns and is happily fermenting and bubbling through the airlocks Now I guess we wait for the first racking off.

    It's been a really good for the bees this year the weather has been good and spring was very early this year with plenty of forage here in Norfolk. Helped also by the oilseed rape crops in my area. Hopefully I can continue to prevent them swarming and there will be another harvest later in the year.

    Last week , took off and extracted 3 gallon of early honey from one hive. Really pleased. Going to have go at making some traditional mead from the cappings.

    found this today. I think this is the horses hoof fungus, first photo has 50p placed on top for scale, goes right back into the crack in the birch stump, there is grass growing on top around centre position. new growth on underside, what do you think...

    thanks for your advice, I hadn't really planned things when i put them in the pots I was just curious to see if they would grow. I will leave them a bit longer and see what happens and try again earlier next year.
