    My garden hammock stand

Thought you might be interested in my garden hammock stand I built this summer! We bought a Thai Mlabri hammock a few years ago and I decided it was time to have it up in the garden. Lack of trees meant I needed to build something to support it. I fancied making something a little out of the...

    Watched 'Downfall' last night

Very interesting film, though a touch long in my opinion. Bruno Ganz was excellent as Hitler. Couldn't help but smile and think about all the spoofs on youtube when the scene where Hitler loses it comes on! Anyone else see it?

    Should we eat wheat?

The contents of this thread on diet piqued my interested and I've spent the last week or so reading papers and blogs on the subject (as recommended by Paul_B!). As a result, I am convinced that we shouldn't eat wheat. Any of us. In the thread referenced Toddy asserted that lectins are not...

Change the search function so that it includes all words in the search?

Does anyone else find it frustrating that when searching for say "stainless steel canteen" the search function pulls up anything with stainless and anything with steel and anything with canteen? I'd much rather it only pulled up posts with all three words in them. Is there any way to get this...

The "go to first new post" link doesn't work

for me at least - using firefox. It takes me to the first post on the page rather than the first unread post. Anyone else see this? Does it work correctly for anyone?

    Uk supplier of Polarpure?

I've been reading my old editions of Bushcraft magazine and was impressed by Stuart's write up on Polarpure. I want some, but Andrew at Outdoorcode is not answering the phone. Anyone know of another supplier in the UK or in the US with reasonable postage costs to here? Thanks

    How ripe must Elderberries be?

I've just made some elderberry tincture from berries I picked locally. I pulled out all of the green or slightly green berries, but as the young berries contain cyanide, I'd like to check on just how ripe they have to be? All the berries I used were purple, but the odd one was not very plump...

The thread title no longer appears in the window title

which is a shame as it means in firefox I have loads of tabs labeled: "bushcraft - Forums", whereas before the tabs would contain the title. A bookmark now needs to be edited to add the information back in. One positive for me, is that the New Posts link now maintains the URL, so to get at...

    Alternative to DEET that works!

We were discussing insect repellent on the First Aid course at the weekend and I remembered that there is an insect repellent that is considered to be as good as DEET but without the scary melts-plastic effects. I've done a search and found the name - it is Picaridin and was developed by...

    Edged tools at the moot....

I saw a fair few people using Ritter Grips at the Moot and was impressed with the overall feel of the knife. Do you feel that this knife is a good bushcrafting knife? Is it up to replacing a fixed blade for you?

Just made some of Hoodoo's jerky

I found a link to Hoodoo's jerky the other day and mentioned it to my friend who breeds British Whites. She generously donated a piece of sirloin to the cause and I spent an hour on Sunday sprinkling (black pepper, crushed chillies and garlic powder), slicing (UK penknife, recently sharpened to...
