    Raspberry Pi Enthusiasts?

I have 5 in use. One is a pihole ad-blocker; it also runs as my independent DNS server, so any requests for websites are managed and resolved inside my own network. One is Logitech Media Server, streaming downloaded music across our network to a variety of players (including a Pi Zero) 2 are...

    Base Layers

Late to the party, as normal, I wear base layer gear most of the winter up here in the Highlands. I wear a Brynje SuperThermo vest most of the winter; if doing outdoorsy stuff (Coastguard) I will probably wear a l/s net shirt, with longjohns if cold. If it is *very* cold (below -5ºC) and...

    Best cold weather hat????

I like these but my everyday cold weather hat is a Brynje beany with SuperThermo mesh lining. Have a look on their Brynje English language site for lots of goodies. They are very helpful, and speak excellent English - well, Margaret, who answers their email does.

Buffalo Mountain shirt VS Special 6 ?

I've got a Special6. It's very warm indeed. I've worn it comfortably, over skin, at around -3º in 30-40mph winds with driving snow. OK, if you stop moving, you will cool down fairly quickly. If it's above 0ºC, I get too hot without opening the pit zips.

    Snugpak jacket advice needed

I've got both the Snugpak Softie and the Special 6 shirt. Up here, it doesn't get really cold, probably the lowest I've been out in is -12ºC which is about 10ºF for us older guys. The Snugpak jacket is excellent for shrugging on as a warmup - and when it's chilly, I'll zip it into my Lowe...

Repair zip on Swanndri Rover Jacket?

Just a follow up; said nice people have fixed my zip for me; better than new. They thought they'd manage with a slider replacement, and rang to tell me; they later rang to say they had to replace the whole zip. £35 very well spent. I recommend them.

    hammock Underblanket Alternative

I use underblankets with our hammocks. I've used nothing, and froze. I've used thermarest, both under and in the bag, and fell off them. I've used windscreen covers, and slid under them in the bag... and if you have them below the bag you'll think you have other problems(see...

Repair zip on Swanndri Rover Jacket?

Wow. Thanks, Toddy. Black would be great... if you've got one, I'd welcome recommendations as to how I get someone to attach it - is it more complicated for a seamstress/tailor as it's a girt heavy woolen jacket?

Repair zip on Swanndri Rover Jacket?

The zip's about 27.5" or 70 cm. It looks like it's just faulty at the bottom - it won't mesh for the first 10mm or so...

Repair zip on Swanndri Rover Jacket?

My much loved Swanni jacket (2XL, Red Black Check, bought in Kaikoura, NZ in 1999) has gone the way of all flesh... Well, the zip keeps popping open at the bottom and undoing all the way up to the zip toggle... While it's not often used as an extreme condition, last resort coat - it hangs by...

    Best base layers.

Err... it's a base layer? *Under* something. Anyhow, it's warm, and Schwert likes Brynje, so it can't be bad.

    Best base layers.

Can I put a word in for string/net underwear? I use Brynje Super Thermo - which you buy direct from the site (drop them an email). Not cheap, but doesn't hum, and easy to vent if you're warm.Since it's mostly holes you don't get soggy wearing it. It's absolutely excellent. If it's really...

    Scottish New Year Meet up

I'll see what I can do; I'd be kipping in a hammock, so need some trees. A kilt might be managed :)

    Big packs/bergens

I'm an idle sod, and rarely do much hard walking/outdoor crafts. I do, however, like my nights out in my hammock. I've noticed with my Tatonka flysheet, group buy hammock(and sometimes midge net), underquilt, Nanok bag, water, scran... my Sabre 45 is getting quite... full. Not heavy...
