    Paracord lanyard for backpack zipper

I used a cobra stitch to make LONGGG bracelet/strap - I then tied it off after sticking my knife sheath on it, over my head and shoulder and it means my knife stays tucked away inside my jacket when I'm out and about - stops Joe Public having a panic attack and reporting me as some...

    Candle/torch making recipes

If you want any advice on wick widths (which controls flame size and burn time) or choice of wax, whether Paraffin, soya or recycled, give me a shout - I'm a candlemaker :) I can recommend some good suppliers of wicks as well - even a recycled-wax candle can be drastically improved by using the...

    uncle ray

I agree about Mr Fenna - who won't have any clue who I am but he gave me lots of sage advice and help at last years bushmoot :)

Too heavy for a couple of nights wild camping?

I don't think that is excessive at all - my normal 3-nighter backpack: Thermarest Sleeping Bag Cooking Stuff Food Tarp Bivvy Bag etc. weigh's 14kg. Add spare clothes and the usual 3 litres of water I'll take with me, it's been known to be up to 19kg and I find that quite comfortable for upto...

Confessions of a bushcrafter with many other interests

Oh god... I make and sell eco-friendly candles (craft-hobby/2nd job), calligraphy, pyrography, geo-caching, sketching, canoeing, PS3 gaming (beta-tester for Sony), paintballing, snowboarding, cycling, RC helicopters, write iPhone apps, create websites for people, make autonomous robots and...

    Bushcrafting at an Airsoft site?

At least us paintballers are forced to use biodegradable (gelatin-based) paintballs with biodegradeable paint - they're the only type you can buy!

do you think he needs a lesson????

Like most people have commented, at least he's out there doing it, but desperately in need of some direction! Maybe I should drop a link to this forum on his comments? That is one very quick way to destroy your knife and your fire steel. I've had my steel for years, and by changing technique...

Lit my first fire without matches.

I agree - you can't beat times that like that. Not only can you look back on it fondly, but the magic of creating the fire from a piece of steel is sometimes all it takes for the passion to catch on...

    Recommended Pannier Bags?

They look great - you are right in that they are expensive, but may be the better deal in the long run. Cheers, Morrolan

    Recommended Pannier Bags?

Hi all, I've decided that this year is going to be the year of the bicycle. Rather than drive to a site (or land I have permission to use), I have decided to connect a little more with the world, and use a combination of trains and bicycle to get to my usual haunts. As such, I'm looking...

    Bushcraft clothing on a budget?

I second Decathlon - I have a dark grey waterproof from there, paid about £25 so I don't mind if I end up scrambling through brambles, and I also bought a pair of Geologic fishing/outdoors trousers in green, £15. I would certainly steer clear of the Real Tree and too much DPM - it just tends...

brewing up with wax covered cotton wool+fire steel [first time]

I'm a candle maker, and the sooting you speak of is most likely the result of using Paraffin candles. I used to make and sell candles using Paraffin wax, but once I moved to Soya wax I've never looked back - burns upto twice as long, creamier, and absolutely no sooting :) I'll make a few of...

    Bushcraft hygiene?

I agree - you've got to love the smell of Grandpa...

    absolute steal!

That used to happen to me, but I have a rule now. If I lend something out, I lend things out 1 at a time per person. If someone asks to borrow something else, I refuse unless item 1 is returned first. My uncle has a good method - wherever the item lives in his house, he leaves a little note...

another night out in the piney woods

Great pics, and you're not massively far from me in Chorley :)

What's your long term project for this year?

Is the ghillie suit for wildlife photography or for ninja work? Best thing for a ghillie suit has got to be a mesh jacket with plenty of fastening options. That way you can use the local flora for cover, rather than having 1 fixed ghillie suit colour/pattern.

    2011 Bushmoot?

I sincerely and massively apologise if I have missed a post somewhere, but I was wondering if there is going to be a bushmoot this year, and if so what dates? After the fantastic time I had last year, both me and my wife want to go this year but as we work for the same company, getting...
