Track and Poo, Quiz for You

Hi all So yes we had the otter prints and the water vole by the side of them. We also had the roe deer poop. The other poo (second set) and the last are a mystery to me. The last is particularly intriguing....... All the best to everyone Rich

Track and Poo, Quiz for You

All the pics were taken within a three mile stretch of a path running from the sea up along the river

Track and Poo, Quiz for You

Now thats interesting to see. Some controversy over 3-6 and 9-10. I was uncomfortable with 9-10 being an owl pellet or pellet at all. The mass was very moist, seems to be digested material as well as undigested. The outer had whitish colouring to the end- urine?-bird poo? It was fresh but had no...

Track and Poo, Quiz for You

Tracks (pics 1 and 2) - lower track in pic 1 is approx 6cm from tip to back (this is right hand upper track in pic 2) Pics 2 to 6 inclusive are an approx 9cm length lump. I had already broken the lump to check the insides so reassmebled with stick as best I could. Pics 7 and 8 were together...

Track and Poo, Quiz for You

Some pics will be following for your track and scat fun! Not as controversial as my previous post turned out so hope it provides some amusement. Once the pics have been added (Paul will add them as for some reason I dont seem to be able to) then I will provide measurements before I get told off...

    pellet or poo 2nd look

The middle picture certainly looks like a pellet and its about the right size for a bird one. The larger mass with it (top pic) seems to be a poo- it is a typical shape for a carniverous mammal but very large. However, I was cautioned by a guy that taught me some tracking stuff that real...

    Track Thoughts

Hi chaps Wow! I am impressed at the tenacity round here...thought this thread would be long dead. 21stC Pict's second picture (in the first set of two pictures) looks very much like my original pic toe splay wise, doesn't it? I just can't see a central rise in it and think this must be part of...

    Track Thoughts

Personally, I am inclined to think BTW is right overall. Someone else also mentioned that the stone might be obscuring. It certainly didn't seem to affect the neg space but could well have obscured the fourth toe- if that's the position said toe would have landed in. The rear "toe" may be from...

    Track Thoughts

I am awaiting his final thoughts. He did say that he thinks we have made an assumption on the pictures that may be wrong. I will post his answer for discussion as soon as I get it as I think we might all be getting frsutrated now. That answer may also back up someone else's theory that has...

    Hard work

The muntjacs are south are they not? lol@maggots. I have heard that some country folk reckon a pheasant has hung long enough when the first maggot falls out of it! Ah, just mention the name Grylls eh? My name for my future Tv career will be Tick Simmers....... Yes, that technique was...

    Track Thoughts

Yes, I agree that a pine marten would be much, much smaller- its just that the question was asked. I also agree we have to consider all angles including long shots. I sent these pics to a tracking instructor I know and he sent me an interesting email in reply. He hasn't yet said what he...
