    Axe Handle Replacement

It's been a while since I've done any craft work but I finished off a project that I started last year and thought I'd share it! The head needs a bit of cleaning up again as it's been sitting in the shed for a year or so since I cleaned it up. I believe going by the markings that it might have...

    My first full tang

lol, so did I. I got to the point of putting the scales on 3 times before actually getting it right. Managed to split one scale when putting the pins in , the second time the holes weren't quite big enough for the scales still and the epoxy dried before it was properly on. Third time lucky but I...

    My first full tang

Just finished this. It's a Mora Scandvik blade with cherry wood scales rubbed with boiled linseed oil. It's not quite perfect, there were a couple of slight gaps where the pins are but as a first try I think it's come out ok :)

Spoon knife - other than mora?

Hi everyone, I know it's been covered before but I couldn't find a definitive answer! I'm after a good all-rounder spoon knife but seeing as how it's my first one I don't really want to pay through the roof for it. I've heard a lot of poor reviews about the mora spoon knives so I'm looking...

Hi Duncan, I don't suppose you could drop me a PM when you get a chance (I tried PM-ing you but your inbox is full). I'd really like to buy a spoon knife and/or DWC blank, depending what you have available. Cheers, Tom.

    Chopsticks!

Ok, I know it's nothing special but I thought I'd share it anyway. Was whittling down a couple of sticks earlier and found the grain of the wood looked quite nice so thought 'what could I make from this..." So here they are, not particularly straight pieces of wood but I quite like it, has...

Wood carving set - which one?

Hi everyone, I had a go at a little bit of carving last night and this is how far I got: The only tools I used were: So I'm a bit stuck now lol. I'm finding it quite hard to put any detail and to do the beard. I'd quite like to finish it off and do a few others so my question...

    Axe Sheath

I went with the button idea seeing as how I've got a few laying around. Started with drilling the holes for the button: And then sewed it on: I used the thread from stitching to make a plait so it's nice and strong to hold the button: The axe was a little bit loose...

    Axe Sheath

I trimmed the fastening piece a bit to make it fit better: And put in a couple of notches to hold onto the axe head nicely: I then sewed on the fastening piece: Not sure what to use on the other side though. Some sort of popper? I haven't got the tool to do that...

    My First Sheath

Some small progress today. I cling filmed the knife, wet the sheath and moulded it to the shape of the knife. Just waiting for it to dry out now :)

    Axe Sheath

While my knife sheath is drying I thought I'd try making an axe sheath for my new axe - a Fiskars hatchet. Got it just for doing a few bits around the garden so didn't really need a Gransfors! I started with a paper cutout to get the size about right: And then marked it onto the...

    My First Sheath

Thanks for all the comments :) Thats a good idea rancid badger, didn't think to do that. I put a pencil in a (maths) compass, ran the pencil down the side of the leather and used the pointed side to mark the line. I'd imagine using the fork would have given a straighter line though :)...

    My First Sheath

Just finished the stitching. Looks ok I think. Theres a couple of slightly wonky stitches but keeps in theme with the hand-made look I suppose lol
