    Tent Stoves

I ran a Frontier stove for about 10 years in the tent and in my allotment shed. It's the 3 legged job, semi-cylindrical with a flat top with a lidded hole in it. It was pretty decent, got extra flue pipes for it and made my own spacer for the hole in the tent, also bought the water boiler...

Ally folding canoes now at Tamarack

Me too. But I just picked up my 2nd Ally - the 13'7" as a solo boat alongside the 16'6" I've had >4 years. In fact, the money I saved on a diddy car and house has paid for the folding boats needed to fit in them... ...err, or something. Joking apart, they are very, very good and...

What's the point in SAK saws?

Agreed. Just used mine for some arrow shafts - 1cm hazel wands. Leaves a nice clean cut, no splintering, EDC(mine's on a Huntsman) so I've always got it if I pass a likely spot. Jim.

    Anyone made a Kudlik ?

I'd use lamb or mutton fat. In fact I have, but rendered, in a soapstone lamp. The unrendered version should behave, and the structure of the fatty tissue will stop it running away (so to speak) as it melts. Beef and pork fat are more likely to have sausage value and therefore a price...

    Juniper Berries

Schwartz spices section in most supermarkets. Or Ullswater, rocky outcrop 1/2 way down , quick canoe paddle across from a layby on the A592.:D Jim.

    Swanndri offer free freight again

Bit like that tale of Harris Tweed that Beeb 4 have been showing. Industry run into the ground. And by a Yorkshire textile man, to boot. Brian Haggas. Anyone see it? Made me a bit embarrassed to be a Tyke, to be honest, which hasn't happened since the last time one G. Boycott opened...

    Custom Bird And Trout

Since I bought it on BB, it's only fair to add here too: The knife was delivered very speedily, well packaged and is a superb piece of work. Played out on Sunday and it did all that was asked of it, though a tad reluctant to spark with the firesteel. Butchered a rabbit neat as anything and...

Group Buy on a Nessmuk Axe?

Blimey! I get out from under work and log in for the first time in aeons and someone's doing a group buy on my fantasy tool... I'll gladly cough up for one. Not seen Cegga's work in the flesh, but from piccies and comments I'd say 100 was a bargain. I'd willingly go 150. I could use...

Ray Mears on TV this week

    Another bushseax

Lovely bit of work. Dark Age gear makes a nice change from all the Ray/Mountain man clones about. I quite fancy a nice Langseax to show off to the kukri/parang crowd  Jim. (former Anglo/Danish Huscarle)

    Mora troubles

As a fellow North-Westerner, I'd say clean AND oil 'em. Esp after cutting anything acidic. (or pies, since you're in Wigan ;) ) And ensure the sheath has a breather hole at the tip. Somer of mine were clogged with moulding "flash". Jim.

    Lidl Trangia and other gear

The stoves are fine - been using one for a year BUT my burner leaked - a LOT! But for a tenner I got a pukka one, and have got a new Trangia clone for 18 quid all in. Result. Jim.

    How sharp is your Knife?

'Ere, pib, you do know you're meant to hold the fat end, don't you :lmao: My personal best is the cut on the tip of my left forefinger, done with an X-Acto modelling knife at the age of 11, IIRC. It was along the top of the finger, tip to 1st knuckle, through the nailbed (in fact to the...

    BBC programme

Yes. Looks like it will be a good watch. The bit where the Brits crashed through the ice into a runny solution of dogs**t was hilarious. Reminded me of launching a canoe from Inverness  ('cept we had mud and seaweed instead of ice. Jim.

    Golite Hex

Contrariwise, I recently got by just fine in mine (outer only) in the :censored: continuous rain. Didn't find the ventilation a problem, nor condensation. I just pitched it as far from the ground as the pole allowed, then used my (drybagged) kit to fill the gap on the windward side to...

    Folding Knives

I suppose since the lockblades now have no legal status and can only be carried "with good reason" this means that a lock or a fixed blade are equally problematic. I suspect this means that many have concluded, as I have, that you carry a sub 3" penknife, or an appropriate fixed blade if the...

    Realities of Going Primitive

So we wipe ourselves out... Darwin (or God) can have another go. BFD. Perhaps they will turn out a less destructive top to the next consumption chain :lmao: Jim.

Firemaking. Welcome, by the way... Wish I had a back garden :( Jim.
